hello

i got an x plate 1.9td multipla. after quite a few probs i recently noticed that i have a fuel leak right underneath the engine. when the car is running and u look underneath the whole of the sump/gearbox is covered in diesel and there is a steady stream of diesel which appears to stop when the car is turned off.

question is is there any where in particular to look to find out where the leak could be coming from?

hoping its possibly corroded pipes etc but not sure exactly where or what to look for

thanks in advance

Top rear section of the engine is the fuel pump and lots of little pipes by the glow plugs sounds like a high preasure leak so id check there.

would this be an easy job to fix? is it easily accessible i take it i will have to remove the plastic cover on the engine etc.

do u think it will be needing a new pump or could it be corroded pipes??

any help is much appreciated

Remove the plastic cover turn the ignition on and have a look, it should be obvious if its leaking like you say.

cheers u mean the fuel should come squirting out is it at the top rear of the engine and easily accessible to repair?

hello

just spent the last 3 hours checkiing for my fuel leak. cant seem to find anything on the top of the engine however in 20 mins or so running i collected almost a pint od diesel so it looks like quite a big leak.

is there anywhere under engine where the leak may be coming from? need some help hear please as im not greatest at fixing cars and need it ready for work tomorro

thanks tio anyone in advance

I'm having similar problems to what is described. I have diesel leaking from the high pressure fuel pump. I've been told i'll need a new one. Fiat want £800!

My car is running fine and i'm still driving it. What I need to know is a manufacturer and part number so I can look for a second hand one.

2000 X-reg 1.9elx diesel.
Thank you all in advance

According to the manual on CD that I have the fuel pump is located within the diesel tank so it would be unlikely to spill fuel around the engine bay if this is indeed the case.

A much more likely suspect is a leak somewhere on the overspill. If it were a leak on the high pressure side it is unlikely the car would start from cold due to air having been drawn in whilst not pumping, although it could always be a self sealing leak.

I would suggest cleaning the engine down with an high pressure hose let it stand until dry and then check again. Difficult to give a definitive solution from afar!

Hi Peat thanks for the advice. I've been told that there are two fuel pumps, one electric driven one in the tank and one which is under the bonnet. I have found a Fiat part number (60814750) but no make although I think it might be a bosch.
The pump is driven from the cam belt.

The pump driven by the cambelt is the Injector pump and it is possible to have a seal leak on it or indeed a loose injector pipe.

If it is the injector pump that is the cause of your leak it can be expensive.

I would suggest that you seek out a diesel specialist and ask them to do a check and if necessary an overhaul. An everyday garage will undoubtedly pass the injector pump onto a specialist should it need attention and would probably cost more in the long run!.

Then how does it build up the pressure:confused: it must have a high pressure pump.

Probably spill pipe leak or at collector resevoir as quite common.

Once again thank you all.

I have came accross this site http://www.dieseljones.co.uk/common...999-bosch-common-rail-pump-0-445-010-007.html
and they only want £95 + my old one in return.
Or there is this site which confirms that my Multi has a high pressure fuel pump http://shop.auto-bendig.de/catalog/...modell_kmodnr=3998&a_typ_ktypnr_subnr=10500-0

If anyone wants to know, the high pressure fuel pimp comes with 2 part numbers I believe, Fiat - 60814750 and Bosch - 0445010007

I'm still gonna look into this a bit more and see if I can get a repair. I have asked Pete from uglybug bits and I think he's gonna get me a secondhand one.

One thing I forgot to mention, I have been using half diesel and half biodiesel. I know that using biodiesel can have an effect on rubber and rubber seals I'm wondering if this might have had an effect. The research I have suggests that it would only affect natural rubber and the Multi should have silicone based rubber.

Anyway, all this suggests I might get a second opinion on the fuel leaking problem.

Hopefully I have now solved the problem.
I phoned DA Motors in Essex on Tuesday they sent out a pump for £126.50. Arrived Thursday.
Car taken into Motormech, Birmingham on Friday. They fitted the pump and solved the front nearside knocking all for £184.
Friday evening travelled to Sheffield, Sunday arrived back, no sign of leaking fuel.
In all a very expensive few days!

HI MATE.
pays to look around a bit eh :) better than the fiat quote for £800 + eh :)
glad its fixed :)

regards
