Just found out i need new valves etc as the cam belt slipped on my 16v!! While i'm having a rebuild, would it be worth my while to ask for porting/polishing while he heads off? will this improve power etc? or should i not bother?

Also i'm still searching for a set of original 3 dr seats, does anyone know of any? or any couppe seats

Cheers

You will have significant gain from the port, only if you install a bigger camshaft!

Just learned the engines fooked! Does anyone know where I can get a new mk 1 or 2 engine?

Cheers

Ok you've had the guess replies, here's a real reply.

Yes if the work is done Correctly then it will yeild results, reprofiling the valve shape and valve seats should be considered as part of this work. Now to get done properly will be nothing near cheap. I have seen a fair number of so called 'pro' jobs that are total rubbish, left with lumps and bumps like a wavey sea - do not confuse a shiny finish as anything useful, and dont confuse a matt port finish as 'rough', all shaps should be smooth curves and not lumpy.

Anything that increase air flow for given valve lift will usually improve power. This assumes one main thing - the engine is correctly calibrated for the air flow it is experiencing. This means a remap to optimise air/fuel and ignition advance - see the other post about tipo remap - Luckily this is an option with the std ecu.

As for cams, yes they will help but they are not cheap, need to be set up correctly, and ulitmately shift the power band higher in the rev range. My 3dr remapped correctly of a head with ported inlet (not exhaust side) and one different inlet cam made 186 bhp on std compression ratio, std inlet, and std exhaust manifold.
