Hi there

I am really really upset and not sure what to do.

I purchased a brand new Fiat Qubo 1.3 multijet my life 6 weeks ago

I went for the diesel because of the low running costs and £20 a year tax, though obviously paid out more for the car to start with. I told the dealer i only did 2,500 miles a year and that the car sits in the garage most of the time.

When it came it had no spare wheel, which I hadn't been informed of. yes I know there is an inflation kit but they don't always work and thats no good to me if I am on the M6 with a flat and the kit doesn't work. Plus you need a new tyre AND KIT! once you've use d the kit That was bad enough but then we got a warning notice saying the engine needed checking.

Booked it into the Fiat garage. meanwhile, we put the seats back, and on putting them back found the wouldn't click back in. I was horrified as my kids have been in the back of this car.
The garage said that they could see someone had tried to bend the clasps to make the seats clip back in, so they obviously knew about it.Plus surely a PDI should have shown it up/
Secondly the PDF filter was blocked. The guy said the car needs to be driven long distances regularly
We don't do that. The guy who sold it to us knew this. It sits in the garage 5 days a week
So looks like we have spent all that money on a car that is just going to go faulty all the time. The guy at the garage we took it to said that the seller mis-sold us this car that he should have explained the workings of a diesel vehicle. Plus about the spare wheel

The dealer is ignoring our emails and I cannot sleep. We have spent a lot of money on this car and I just don't know what to do. can anyone help please? Just how much driving is required to keep the filter working? Its no point us driving long distances for the sake of it,. It defeats the object of saving money!
Thanks

As a driver yet to experience a DPF filter I can't comment on the amount of driving needed to blow it out but after light driving for 6 weeks it sounds like a real liability. I think you can have it removed and not affect any law and since the MOT is 3 years away I doubt it would raise any issues.
There's been an interesting chat from a user on the MPV forum here about removing the CAT and blocking off the EGR Valve which sounds very much like with those mods done and no DPF, the car is better to drive and more economical whilst removing any concerns of the DPF needing cleaning, the EGR needing unblocking from getting gunked up and the CAT being an extra baffle preventing efficient exhaust gas removal. Why would firms supply an EGR blanking plate if it wasn't considered benficial?!

From a general glance in this direction it would seem these things are fitted with limited concern for running/economy/enjoyment (yes some people actually enjoy driving - me for one!) and are purely thoughts about appearing to be a 'green' car manufacturer.
Quite what levels of pollutants are witheld by inclusion of an EGR Valve, a DPF and a CAT I can't quote but someone wiser than I who has measured the same model with and without these could? It would no doubt help our disgruntled owner here and also be informative to other users I think.

I do hope you find a solution - the best one I think is removal or bypass of the DPF. The other two are options to choose but the DPF (as previously mentioned by others) can appear 'troublesome'.

Hi, I asked people about diesel cars, if there was anything different to look for. I also drove a diesel at work for years. I didn't know there;'d be any problem. But the Fiat guy who looked at the car last week said the salesman should have TOLD me there'd be problems. We had actually been looking at getting a petrol one anyway. I had thought it would be cheaper overall with the low tax and running costs. he should have told me it wasn't feasible

Thank you paul
if this D
PF filter was removed, would that mean then that i could drive it infrequently without it being a problem? And do you think the Fiat garage would agree to it being removed? If not, does anyone on here want to buy it? :D Wish I'd just got a Ford Fiesta again which is what I wanted. Hubby wanted a bigger car.

Hi wishidboughtadifferentcar,

What a mess...........get back on to the dealer, it should have been made clear to you that a diesel at such low use would be of no use to you. Forget about having the unit removed and blanked off, while it works fine, you will invalidate your warranty...........dangerous.

Speak to the Dealer Principle, and state your complaints clearly and strongly......perhaps they will offer to come to a arrangement with a different car, more suited to your motoring needs.

Good luck.

Of course - that was an option I didn't write!

Since it's only 6 weeks and your circumstances are quite evident I'd think you could engineer an exchange for something better suited to your usage - and get the over-keen salesman re-trained for telling you what he wanted to hear not what you wanted advice on for your requirements.

Thank you. WE have rung again and the guy isn't there. have sent another email and my hubby is going to ring again later. I cannot flipping sleep at night worrying about this. What if they refuse to do anything, as they are ignoring all emails and calls atm? I just feel sick to be honest. I have told them Id be happy to take a petrol qubo and the difference back, or even a panda. I just wish I could turn the clock back. :( Thank you all for your advice.

Hi wishidboughtadifferentcar,

Hope you get it all sorted...........no probs about the 'like' button.

Keep posting to let us know how you get on.

Cheers Qube O.
you say you e-mail or phoned the dealer, you will not get anywhere like that, you need to go face to face with the dealer, just phoning or e-mail they will keep fobbing you off.

It isn't that easy though, , they are 50 miles away. We could drive all the way there aND FIND THE PERSON WE WANT ISN'T THERE. oops sorry
My hubby rang yesterday and read the riot act and they are meant to ring today about giving us a different car and a partial refund although at 3.30pm they haven't. My hubby has told them we are not letting them get away with this and we will take action. He thought they would ring. I didn't! I am going to contact trading standards, motorcodes, tv consumer groups, the national press, and also my hubby plays footie for a solicitors firm so if we have to, we will sue them. i'd just prefer not to have to go through all that as I suffer very badly with my nerves and this is making me quite ill :(

Good for you, stand your ground,as you said this car is no good for you.
Miss selling is a criminal offence.....{fit for purpose] the salesman new your circumstances and therefore you should be compensated either a full refund or a qubo with a petrol engine.
I will ad though, don't diss this car,as it is a great little thing, i do drive a diesel van version [fiorino] and it's fantastic i love it to bits, but i do the miles to warrant a diesel.
Thinking of you
Luigi

Thank you

My hubby said that each time he said they had "mis-sold" us the car he kept saying "You've used that word twice, 3 times 4 times" etc now. My hubby said, Yes, and I will keep on saying it!
he did ring yesterday after 4pm, but with no offer. Said he'd "look at figures" which he was laready meant to be doing the day before. I'd already said we wanted some money back as we;d paid so much more for the diesel with the thought that we'd recoup the extra money in 5 yrs with tax and fuel consumption. The idiot says "So you're saying you want money back aswell?" I'd already said this! Bearing in mind aapart from all the extra cash spent, all the hassle and stress it has caused, the fact that the seats were faulty and had been tampered with, the fuel we've used taking it to a dealer, 40 odd miles done and more fuel used by the dealer trying to a forced regen and sleepless nights, plus I'll have to pay extra to change the car on my insurance, what do they flippin think?

I will keep you posted, they are meant to ring again today. They tried to fob me off with that at first, wouldn't say when they'd ring.

Thanks for the support, it is appreciated. :)

Hi wishidboughtadifferentcar,

If the salesman is giving you the 'run around', and you loose patience with him............speak direct, like I said, to the 'Dealer Principle'. Its possible that the sales guy is just trying to squirm his way out of the situation, and the 'Boss', not sales manager, but the 'Boss' is not even aware of the situation.

Good luck again.

Cheers Qube O.

Hi Qubo. No we contacted the top boss straight away. He has rung back today and basically doesn't want to know. I am so annoyed. Now we have to start getting tough. My hubby is adamant they are going to pay for this!!! I don't suppose there would be people on here ;looking at buying a new Qubo would there? I know I wouldn't get the full price back, but Id rather sell it, lose a bit and go buy a Ford, but I could be advertising it for months and lose even more money :(

I don't think the 'the legal process' would allow a dealer just to walk away - there are things in place to protect the buyer on reasonable grounds, mis-description, mis-selling, fit for purpose etc. and it looks like you have a finger in each of those pies. Citizens Advice might like to hear about this, or Rogue Traders. For fear of bad publicity a dealer ought to make good and apologise too but I'm sure in law you have some recourse.
You were told the wrong things by a salesman and the Top Man whoever he is should be looking at retraining him or removing him and making sure you, the customer, are happy with what you drive away from his showroom. You could try writing/e-mailing/phoning Fiat HQ. I guess they'd like you to keep a Fiat and should help in whatever way possible.

Try Ciao Fiat on 0800 3428 0000 or look at http://www.fiat.co.uk/privacy where you can 'chat' online to an adviser - there's email there too or they'll call you back if you ring..

From an old thread on here (2004) where someone was complaining about tyre wear I found this number "Customer Service Helpline on: 0800 717000 and push option number 2" although in 9 years they might have changed it ;)

Good luck.
