After having the top end rebuilt, head skim, new valves, cam belt etc, the car refused to start, after hours of online searching, we discovered a fuel cut out switch, after pressing this my frog ran great for 3 days then refused to start, tried the cut off switch again, but no luck, i removed the switch and used some wire to bridge the contacts, it started straight away, but only ran for 4 days, refitted the switch and it ran for a further 2 days before giving up the ghost completely. I need help desperately. If you have had a problem like this please get in touch

Its a 1.6 petrol on a 52 plate, Spent more money than its worth, so need to get it back on the road !

Check the fuel pump and listen to see if its priming up when ignition is switched on u will here it sucking up if all is ok check for a spark from the coil as these are prone to playing up are there any lights on the dash

Hiya Pete123,

Getting all the normal lights on the dash, Fuel is reaching upto the engine and fitted new plugs, tested for a spark before fitting each one.

Have u looked into sensors like cam or early signs of crank sensor I no crank sensor stops the car starting when it's warm but does the cam sensor as I'm guessing u have been all through basics of needing air spark and fuel could there be a blockage somewhere

Thinking of ordering a crank sensor and hoping it wil work, or joining the AA thing where they pay upto £500 to repair it, seems good for £46 :D

That don't sound bad that 46 pound is about the cost to stick it on a diagnostic machine so 1st call out and it's paid for its self see what others on the forum have to say

Not sure that crank sensor or cam sensor throw up an error, I've had two crank sensor failures and not seen an error for either one.

The problem could be crank sensor, could also be faulty ECU. It's not valve timing as the car ran on two separate occasions.

Fuel cut off switch is puzzling me, AFAIK these are actuated by a G-loading so that in the event of an accident the car doesn't continue to pump fuel. What caused this to cut-off the fuel, is there a wiring fault somewhere?

Couple of things, when you crank it over and it doesn't start are the plugs wet with fuel? Also, could you confirm that you've checked the plugs while the engine is cranking?

On the 1.6 the fuel cut off does sometimes kick in not a common problem just spoke to me mate and he was saying ecu but then shouldn't it show up with a warning somewhere

Sorry for taking so long to reply, i was away for 2 weeks then i have been ill with cold and cough that affected my astma :(

momoe -

Yes i have checked that all plugs spark and all plugs are wet with fuel, so in theory it should start.

No errors showing on diagnostics, so fitted a new crank sensor, car now running, thanks for everyones help
