Playing music through USB

I was trying to plug my Iphone in to the USB port on my grande punto 1.9 130 and when its plugged in it beeps so sounds it must be connected but when i press play on my phone theres nothing, Is there a way around this.? I was just using the cable provided with Iphone.
Also when i plug a USB stick in will the songs automatically just play or do i need to press something?

I tried playing tracks from my daughter's iPhone in my Fiat Linea's Blue&Me with updated SW v5.5, but in vain. It didn't recognise iPhone. But, my Linea, surprisingly, recognises and plays from iPod without the media adaptor!

To enable auto play, please select Blue&Me Settings>Media Player>Auto Play>On.
