Just wondering who here is on a contract phone?

Getting sick of the patchy o2 signal at the moment - even with full bars my phone can't always detect the carrier, and the inconvenience is becoming more than annoying.

Seriously tempted to go contract with Vodafone as I believe their coverage is a little better. Just looking for some advice though - anyone with them/used them on contract before?

Also, as far as phones go, I'd like a nokia but the N96 is only available on daft 1000's of minutes a month contracts. Anyone got the Samsung Tocco?

After falling out with Orange (and having given up on O2 a long time ago) I'm now with Vodafone, good strong coverage 99% of the time.
She who must be obeyed is on 3, their coverage is ok but still better than Orange.

I'm with Vodafone as well, and have been for 8.5 out of the 10 years I've owned mobiles and never had a problem. If you want advice on what handset to go for, speak to the guys in store. My old dear's bf works at the store in Elgin and knows his onions.

I'm on Vodafone - depending on what you do, the coverage can be amazing or just good - in populated areas it is good, if you head out into the hills the fact you gte Vodafone and no other carrier makes it excellent.

I'm due a new contract in a month or so time and I'm having a look around - Vodafone is not competitive in any way - phone choice is average but pricing points are a bit higher than the competition. I'm likely to stay with Vodafone as the hill coverage is an attraction.

As for phones - I've a first gen N95 and can't wait to get rid of it - bag of mince - has all the bells and whistles but doesn't have a battery to keep up (running the GPS for 30 minutes has flattened the battery several times) - 3G kills the phone and I need to charge it daily...I believe the N95 8GB has a slightly bigger screen and better capacity battery but feedback I've had is the battery last just shy of 2 days (which is better but still not great) - also the S60 series OS seems to be a real slow dog that takes a few seconds to respond to selections...Touch screen phones seem to be the trend but if the touch bit fails you are humped.

I'm going to go for a phone with less toys (improves battery life), a decent camera and a standard candybar style phone - they seem to take knocks better than the rest.

All depends what you want out a phone though - if you want the latest bling that does everything (and you want it for free) you need to take a big contract out...if you are looking for about a £20 per month spend then Vodafone won't offer you much.

Also if you have Fiat's Blue&Me installed in your car, very few Nokia's work with it completely - hands-free works but the contacts need sent rather than synching automatically and the text reader won't work at all - Sony Ericsson if you want full integration.

Really depends what you want from a phone...and how much you want to pay a month.

i'm on t-mobile although its a pay as you go, if you text alot, they have a good price plan for what it is, but calls are extortionate on it!, never any problems with network signal though

i was on vodafone contract a couple of years ago and they were rubbish, their price plan was terrible, hugely expensive compared to say o2, customer service was poor too, i got cut off 3 times for no reason, even though i had paid everything up to date and was never late with any payment, a few people i know on vodafone have had exactly the same thing happen, so personally, i wouldnt go back with them.

dick, i get 3 days from my phone average, but for what it does, i can't complain! my mate has the same prob as yours, but even he admits that the n95 8gb is way better!! i'll defo be getting the n96 next, but had sony erricsons before hand, and think the nokia N-series is way better than sonys W series!!

As tempting as the N95/6 are, Im thinking about pre-ordering the new 5800?

Looks like it does most of the stuff I want it to do, and it doesnt need a hefty contract either.

Its between that and a samsung I was looking at last night, I thnk!:rockstar:

Well, you'll all hate me for this and call me a sell out, but...I have an iPhone :D

Reasons, among many...it was free, unlimited data package and I like the media capabilities it has, though I do need to swap over the standard earphones.

Oh, but if you're looking at smartphones in general, take a look at the upcoming Nokia n97 and the G1 too. The latter may not be the best handset in the world, but the OS is brilliant.

Thanks for the advice guys n gals!

After a shot of Steve's at the weekend, I ended up getting the N95 after all. Got mine last night and loving it so far (y)

Heard bad things about the camera but it's taken better pics than I've taken with many a digi cam over the years!

I've heard and indeed seen good things about the n95 camera. The video capture's pretty decent too (y)

I'm now also on the look out for a phone, mine has totally had it, piece of junk samsungs!!, my last 2 phones were a nokia that got dropped down 2 flights of stairs (not by me i may add) and it still worked perfectly, and a motorola that even after 2 months bouncing it off walls as it annoyed me that much with its crappyness, still wouldnt break :( (until the aerial flew off and it never regained a signal :D )

then on to the samsung that got completey flummoxed by a trouser pocket!, ive got my third version of that model all replaced under warranty. 1's screen went frosty and the buttons all failed, 2's backlight failed, 3 now loses signal, wont hold a charge and the buttons work randomly :(

tempted by the iphone, but not heard such great reviews and seems a bit gimicky imo, plus there will be a million things to break on it, all the toys on it are tempting tho ;) , but many of the other less flashy phones have 95% of what the iphone has, some even have features the i doesnt!, i've no idea what one to get tbh, hows the n95's doing?

im also quite tempted by some of the newer nokias that are out :)

I have the sony ericcson C905. Would reccomend it to anyone, great phone and the only place I havent got a signal is out at Stuarty's house, but even then just walked around a bit and got alomst full signal.

memory should not even be considered any more as you can get 4gb cards now for under a fiver and as for phones ive had the lot basically :) and i prefer my current lg viewty to anything else on the market now and dont get me started on the apple brand cack :) just plain and simply cant stand the sh** :D

I can't get a signal in my house no matter what network I'm on. I'm currently with 3 (having been with Orange and Vodafone previously) and don't notice any difference in reception but my phone is crap. Lee (my other half) has an N95 on 3 and although it's showing up as having full signal, he sometimes can't get calls and his texts 'stick'. We're thinking it might be a phone issue rather than a network one. Can't wait til my contract is up and I get a new phone :) He's after an N96 soon.
