General Permanent fix for the glove box?

As I'm sure we're all aware the Grande Punto appears to have a common problem with the glovebox. Has anybody got a DIY solution to fixing this other than (take it to Fiat so that it can break again?)

It opens correctly but doesn't always shut unless I slam it or tickle the mechanism first.

Thanks. Could you provide further detail or a guide? What is the origin of the problem? Is something out of alignment?
