Paul. I noticed you said you have a HLX with 17'' wheels and 205 section tyres. I'd be interested to know what the makes, models and sizes are. Is the suspension lowered too? Do you get any tyre scrubbage? Problems with speedo calibration / gearing?

Cheers

John,

I have indeed got a 98S HLX with 17's.

The wheels are Seneki racing five spokes with Avon ZZ1 205/40 tyres. The cars been lowered 30mm all round using GM springs. The wheels and springs were fitted at the same time and suspension set up by Elite Autos in Rainham, Essex. No scrubbage has been experienced. I even made booze trips fo France with three adults, and even with bringing pelnty of liquid refreshment back, no problems have occured.

The only affect the big wheels have had is to make the brakes look small. An area I will address when time and money allow.

As far as speedo accuracy goes, I haven't noticed any differences. The wheels must have some affect, but it must be small or else I would have noticed. Speedos are inaccurate anyway! On the plus side, the car looks the dogs b£$%^&ks, and drives much better. Not cheap though, I must admit.

If you look back at old messages, you will see others from the forum have had similar experiences to me with larger wheels.

Go for it.

Cheers

Paul
I hope this helps.

Thanks Paul

Thanks Paul - that gives me a good idea of where to start. I agree about the brakes. It's a shame Fiat stuck drums on the rear wheels. I wonder if the HGT rear discs / calipers would fit?

Cheers

Do u have any photos of your new tires?

Hiya mates:
I would like to take a peep on your new car look, as i'm planning to change tires and lower springs too. I have a 99'HGT.
Do u know any url where we can check alloys models?

Thanks in advance

Bravo Tires / Wheels

Well, i have to disagree on that:

The bigger the wheel, slower the top speed and recovery after slowing down.

I bought my JTD105 with 14" (using 185/55R14 tires) and fitted later on 15" OZ wheels with Yokohama 195/50R15 tires and the results were:

- Top speed went from 215Km/h to 205Km/h (shown)
- Consumption is less in slower speeds and higher in high speeds. (still under 4.4 litres at 90Km/h)
- 5Th gear is way slower. Used to recover speed much faster, now it lacks a bit of power.

What am i going to do:

- Fit a direct admission air filter.
- Chip it to 130BHP

This will increase consumption a bit, but the nervous attitude of the car will be back. I do miss it, specially in 5Th gear ;).

POR MI PARTE YO VI UN BRAVO HGT AZUL OSCURO, CON LLANTAS OZ WHEELS EN 17 PULGADAS, SON ESPECTACULARES Y CON EL AUTO BAJADO UNOS POCOS MILIMETROS QUEDA IMPRESIONANTE.

POR MI PARTE LAS TSW NO ME AGRADAN, APARTE QUE ESTAN MUY QUEMADAS, ESPECIALMENTE LAS VENOM.

LAS ENKEI SUZUKA SON UNA HERMOSA OPCION, SIEMPRE Y CUANDO EL PERFIL SEA BAJO, EN LO POSIBLE 40.
