Hi All,

Have a Multipla (53 reg, 1.6) and the main top lens of the wing mirror has gone "wobbly", for want of another word. It cannot be controlled from the button inside the car. If the mechanism has broken, do i need to buy the whole wing mirror, or can i buy just the top part of the lens?

regards,
Paul.

You should first check that the mirror is securley fixed to the door as mine was not!! Take off the inner trim around the quarter light and use a 5mm allen key on the three bolts which secure the mirror to the door. If this is not the problem (quite likely not), then ensure that the mirror operating arm linkage is correctly inserted in the cup behaind the mirror mounting plate as they some times get dislodged if the mirror is hit.

You can buy the glass as an after market part for around 10 pounds or less, and this then attaches on top of the original using double sided tape.

Finally, a word of warning... If you opt for a replacement complete mirror assembly then beware that some of them do not come fully wired. This means that only the motorised adjustment is possible and not either the heater or fold back option (been there done that, anyone need a new replacement off side mirror!!).

Hi Mags and thank you for not only the concise reply, but also how quick you responded.

You've given me some good pointers and sound advice.

Much obliged,
Paul

I bought a driver's mirror unit from 'http://www.allpartssouthwest.com/html/door_mirrors.html'
a few months ago. It is identical to the original and all motor functions inc. folding work fine. It also has the temp sensor. Don't know if it heats up, but I'm happy with it and delivery was quick too, so I'd recommend that company if you do need a new unit.
