General Pandas playing polar bears

This is the best I've got (n)
Not much snow in London and the roads cleared pretty quickly, so I've not had a chance to try out the M+S tyres on the Selecta. Maybe tomorrow :(

No Panda snow fun for me this year as my Sisley is still off the road and my CLX is on sorn to avoid the dreaded salt! I do however have a Land Rover so have been out for most of the day playing in the Peak District in that, obviously very capable but a Panda 4x4 seems more surefooted, less likely to slide and easier to stop, which I suppose is due to the very narrow tyres and low weight of the Panda compared to the Landy.

At first I didn't think the Nankang's were as good as the previous ones (hopefully they will last longer though!), but they were superb particularly in deeper snow.

I've got Nankang's on the GP, although they were an advisory on my MOT about 3 weeks ago, they're still coping well, had an issue getting up a hill due to 2WD and the GP isn't as light as a Panda, but they stop me fine.

Finally got the video off my friends phone so here it is:

The start is a little shaky but I included it because thought it was good to have a bit of inside (and some good laughs) on route to the Panda battle arena (aka empty car park ;) )

She has a stainless exhaust fitted at the moment so sounds rather raunchy

hehe i think those tyres are too grippy for the fun you want.

i must admit, me and a friend were having a fantastic time on a snowy car park using standard 145/60/13 tyres. i have never stepped the back end out before (sept on my brothers buggy.. that ended badly.) but it was very fun in 2nd gear doing long sideways donuts in talon. i never recorded it though and the dash cam was not in at the time.
dont worry, i have never yet red lined the engine and plan never to do it.. i would never abuse talon like that.

They are indeed very grippy but you can spin them. The video is showing a friend from work driving and he is being quite sensible and starts off nice and slow at the start. But I don't usually get to see the car from outside so thought it was a good opportunity to get an outside video for a change.

I hope we get some more snow though, I'm suffering from withdrawal

Its amazing that little Mk1 Panda is still out there against all the odds. Quite life affirming.

I thought the redline was a target set for you by Fiat rather than something your supposed to avoid :D

Me too! :(

Car sounding and looking great Si. (y)

I went back to the really steep long hill this morning to have another go as I couldn't believe how easy it was yesterday. When I got there my way was blocked by a Mercedes Sprinter lwb stuck at the bottom. He was trying to reverse back as he couldn't even start to go up!
When he got back to me I guided him into a gateway so that he could turn round. He reversed in ok but couldn't go forwards because his rear wheels had dug down through the snow and into the mud below. I tried to push with the help of a middle aged couple who were out for a walk, but we couldn't even move it an inch.
The Lady walker said "I'll pop and see if the farmer down the road can tow you out with his tractor"
I said " it's ok, I'll tow you out with this"
She said "You'll never tow it out with that! Do you realise what you have there? If that tows that van I'm buying one of those"

So I connected up a rope and pulled it out with no trouble at all. They were gobsmacked but didn't see through there purchase. Once I'd untied the rope I rubbed it in a little more by reversing past the van into the gateway, then drove off out of sight, up the hill! :D

Tried to find the worst possible road today on my way home - extremely steep, snowy, ice covered track. Stopped by an AA man at the bottom claiming that the road was impossible to get up or down even with 4wd & I'd never get up it.

I like a challenge and snorted something along the lines of you'd be surprised how good this is. Needless to say the Panda sailed up - must admit halfway I was considering the wisdom of ignoring him (chunks out of the bank either side where stuff had got stuck sort of makes you think, especially when you don't think you could walk up it!), but the Panda once again never even looked like it was struggling despite the ice.

Panda win - AA fail (y)

Actually I don't know if I want a 4x4 Panda,

they seemed to have turned reasonably sane people into snow seeking nutcases

My grasp on reality is tenuous at best, perhaps I'll stick to 2wd for now :D

I can't speak for anyone else but "reasonably sane" is the nearest thing to a compliment I've had for a while - wibble, wibble, etc!! :D

And yes the rest is probably true, but a tenuous grasp on reality seems entirely reasonable as a requirement for 4x4 Pandaring .......... ;)

Panda 4x4 is the sane choice! so the voices in my head tell me. :p

What has now become my favourite hill was the same as yours today Gavin, compacted snow frozen solid as ice. I tried to get up it today and failed :(.

Because another stupid van driver had tried first and got stuck right across the lane :shakehead:. It was another sprinter but this time a box van. Looked like he had tried to turn around, in a lane that was narrower than the length of his van!. the tailift was buried in one bank and his front suspension and bumper buried in the other, no way was I going to tow him out.
I got out of the Sisley and went to ask him if he needed any help, I could barely stand up it was so slippery, had to walk in the deep snow at the sides. Turned out he had phoned his boss and something was being sorted, a crane I would imagine.

Took my now regular detour today and surprise surprise, Cilla Black was stuck in a van! Sorry, my mind wandered there.
No, this time there was no van or anything else. In fact I didn't see another vehicle all the time I was in the area.:)

There were now signs of the snow thawing, and as the scenery was particularly spectacular today I thought I'd better take what may be my last chance to get some pics.
So, inspired by Gavin's previous shots I just stopped in the road........

I think the trees were the stars today.
