Hi everyone my name's Robert. I've been aware and had a look round the forum for years but finally decided to join after selling a Panda 750 engine to a fellow member.

I've been a Fiat fanatic since I was little and have owned, three 126's, an original 500, four Mk1 Pandas, seven Mk2's, three Uno 45's, two Uno 60's, a phase 1 Uno turbo, three phase 2's, six Cinquecentos, two Seicentos, a Punto GT, Uno Stage Rally car, 16V N/A, 16V turbo, 20V turbo Fiat Coupe's, Fiat Croma turbo ie, Tempra TD, Tipo 1.4, Tipo 2.0 16V, Bravo HGT and four X-1/9s.

I've strayed away from Turin (and Poland)'s finest on occasion but there's something about Fiats that just makes feel at home behind wheel.

My latest projects are a Panda Fantasia kind of rolling restoration (daily drive) and Panda 750 that's being adapted (hopefully) for this years PPC (Practical Performance Car) £999 challenge.

P.S I am referring to the Mk1 Panda from 1980-1986, Mk2 Panda from 1986-2003 with the 90's face-lift included; not the new version that everyone calls the Mk2 for some reason.

Glad you made it without incident. Last time I went to Peterborough someone tried to stab me. ;)

He's the decent photo of my Fantasia...

... £300 very well spent eh?

Just to catch up I've been photoshoping...

I'll do a progress report on the 750 later.

Thank you for the recommendation (if I annoy anyone it's your fault).

Apparently there are only three Fantasia models left. The only colour going near the car will be green and dark grey for the sills.

If the interior needs a retrim I've found the genuine Tartan the seat covers are made from...

Sorry I didn't realize I had to resize the photo's. :bang:

I can url now so here's a catch up....

...The only thing I don't like about the Fantasia is the four speed gear box. 70+mph isn't an issue but the old girl has to work harder than she needs to.

That was the original plan, but like the Rover 213 I bought a couple of years ago as soon as I found out how rare the car was I only opened my tool box when I needed to. The Fantasia is a rolling restoration and daily drive the 750 will be more interesting. Although I may be using the Fantasia for film work in the near future. Sorry for any confusion. :)

Welcome to the Forum Rob (y)

Can't believe you've had that many Fiats and it's only now that you join us .

The Practical Performance car challenge sounds interesting.

P.S. Well done Lewey, i'm always impressed by people who can do stuff with puta's :worship:

I welded base plates to the front hoop of the cage yesterday and took the head off the 16V engine. I was told it was a 1.4 (1368cc) engine when I bought it but when I checked the part numbers on the head, loom, ac pump and alternator they suggested it was a 1242cc engine. Now I have the head off I measured the bore and stroke to find it is a 1368cc block with a 1242 head.

After a little more investigation the water pump was held in with silicone and the even though the gasket between the head and the cam's was new and the bolts were also the old head gasket had been reused and there was radweld type stuff blocking one of the water channels.

So it looks like the 1368cc block had a 1242cc head fitted after the water pump failed. The water pump and head were bodged into place.

So do I continue with the 1108cc engine in the shed that has the distributor ready to go or do I fit the 1108cc head on to the 1368cc block with distributor and x/1-9 carb'?

The 1.5 carb' would need very little adjustment to suit the set up and if I clean the ports of the head before fitting it and fit the Punto 75 cam' it probably wouldn't need adjusting at all.

What do you guys think?

Now I'm taking the Fantasia out to collect more Punto GT wheels for the 750 :)

Ilkelstone Derbycestershire if I get spotted I'll have Jaffa Cakes in the car with me. ;)

I'd like to see the 1108 with carb on there as I'm thinking of doing a similar engine. Will the cam gear match the crankshaft gear? Looks like the teeth are different on the ones I have, I haven't checked to see if the 1.4 cam gear will fit the Punto 75 cam yet though.

I was going to use the 1108 cam pulley and belt. The bore and stroke may be different but the number of turns the engine makes in relation to the cam' should be the same.

Sounds complicated... what timing belt are you gonna use?
Surely the blocks must be different sizes... Enough slack on the tensioner? are teeth same size?

The 1368 is not an easy engine to setup in a panda IMO, if you want extra power, why not look fot a 1242 block and use the head you already got, and tune that best as you can. ITB's, manifolds, clever induction, injectors, remap, are all possible solutions and will push the panda well beyond the magical 54bhp it was designed to cope with..

If you want to run on carb(s), I'd personally start with a an engine that was designed to run that way, or at least a complete engine :D

Yes, but the 2 pulley have to be at the right ratio.
