General panda turbo

right then i`m looking to move on from my 750 panda but the body is in such good condition that I don't want to sell it. What would be the options for dumping in a bigger engine such as the y10 turbo engine. I know that i will have major traction problems but a lot of my trips are over 60 miles up hills so a bit more go would be welcome any ideas?

The y10 turbo doesn't use a FIRE engine so I would make an educated guess at sayin that this would be an arse to fit......

Also Y10 turbo's aren't the most economical (mine does around 25mpg when running) and are virtually impossible to get hold of parts for..... (As i've found out)

Saying all that it'd would definately have a "bit" more pull with 86bhp standard although the power kicking in is rather noticeable to put it politely.

The problem to fit the engine, is ot a big problem, last weekend have i put a 1050 cc engine, from the 127 mk.2 Sport in my Panda, for racering. But you can get 80 hp, essy on this engine.

so what engine options would i have? i seem to remember them doing a 1.1 panda would that fit? it just seems like such a waste to get rid of it and by another panda which might not be in such good condition un less anyone wanted to swap ?

Any FIRE engine should fit without to much hassle i'd imagine.......

I'm not to sure though tbh

Maybe the Y10 GTie would fit 1301cc I think that's a FIRE engine

next question how much is a 1.0 or 1.1 panda engine and how much of a pain in the arse is it to fit? would like the y10 turbo engine or compleate car as a friend of mine had the y10 1.0l and that was good.

Y10 Turbo's are damn hard to find

And more likely than not will be rusted out if you do find one....

Mine is probably body wise one of the tidiest examples you are likely to find (just need to get the bloody thing running) but are great little cars when running......

Not sure on Panda engines tbh

no not really! i will just have to see whats about and try to get a whole new panda and sell my one. I have just fallen in love with the great little things on a panda just after some more shove!

The Y10 Turbo, are not a Fire engine, But originaly buildt i Brazil, it´s the same as the 127 Mk.3 Sport, And the Duna. Another engine would be a 1242 8V Fire from the Punto, or 1242 16V also from the Punto, the 16V have 75-80 hp, to start with.

Brief description

The Lancia Y10 turbo uses the 1049cc Fiat Brazil engine with the addition of an IHI RHB5 turbo and Weber 30/32 DMTR twin choke carb. It also uses the Digiplex ignition system to retard the ignition under boost conditions.

I'm selling a Panda 1000 Fire engine if you're interested, I've also got doors, bonnet, boot lid, headlamps, tail lights, front suspension, radiator, instrument cluster, new bonnet release cable, new clutch cable, clutch, (-2000 miles), new heater fan, electronic ignition system, distributor, carburettor etc...

Hey Smokeme, I remember you... been a while though.. Nobody probably remembers me though I used to come here under "sabeltandcavia" (--> Sabertooth-guinea-pig) but I haven't used that nickname on any forum for years so I'd thought I'd better make a new account with the name I use on every single forum..

Anyways.. there has been tons of questions regarding turbo-Panda's, both here as well as on the forum of the Dutch Panda-club.. well, if you ask me, it's a whole lotta trouble, with no really spectacular results.. basically, to fit a turbo engine, or even to convert the stock engine to turbo (why?!?!?!) there's a lot of things that have to be changed. Why not go for an engine with some decent power to begin with? There's plenty of space under the hood of the Panda. Why not fit an Alfa Romeo 4 or even 6 cilinder engine?

I know I start to sound like a broken record, but just like smokeme I've been looking for ways to make the Panda go significantly faster for a long, loooong time now. (about 3 years+ I think at the moment..) and I've had many a crazy idea. Most of those sortof went up in smoke because of strict laws and regulations here in Holland, but they would work in theory.

I know for a fact that the 2.5 and 3.0 liter Alfa V6 engines would fit with minimal problems size-wise, although I'm not sure on hood clearance.. it was actually my favorite idea for a long time too.. but alas, stupid laws here forbid me to change the number of cilinders.

So after some talks with some Alfa nuts, it showed that the 2.0 liter 8V Alfa engines would be a very decent alternative. Might not sound as spectacular as saying you've got a three liter V6 Panda, but the engines are much lighter, and they give comparable power.. 148 horse power should be more than enough for such a light car.

And another bonus point would be that you could get a cheap(-ish) Alfa donor, and strip many more items from it, such as brakes, and wheels, power steering and power assisted brakes, and also power windows, etc.. some also come with ABS, that's also good to have of course..
