General panda speakers

oops missed this thread  been a bit hectic recently, just been replying to random threads here and there tbh. If you want to see what ive done, i can post up some pics for you. I fitted 6" speakers (i think they are) in the front door pockets. 2 ways. Theyre "cheap" megavox as i mentioned in the other thread lol, but they sound good. I didnt even get much resonation as i thought. A blob of bluetak sorted it out lol :D You can make up a little box to cover the magnet in the pocket out of mdf of plyboard and jobs a gooden! (y)

Sorry again this is late,

Cheers

My door pockets are longer cos its a mk1 but it should be the same depth i would have thought. In fact if these are to be the only speakers in the car then i recomend getting some really good ones, allways try and see which ones sound best in halfords or wherever and get them cheaper on ebay maybe :D Mine were £20 for the pair though and are quite good. 200watt max should be fine if the head unit is rated at 30-40 watts per channel. Mine are rated at 220 so around that mark should be ok i think.
It does mean having to cut a hole in the pocket, so a jigsaw comes in very handy there :D Best have a spare door pocket just in case things dont go to plan or you dont like it.
Anyway, good luck with it! Hope you get it set up with no problems

Si

You'll need an MDF shelf, apparently the standard panda shelf is prone to snapping when loaded up with speakers. If you're going with 6x9s then make sure you get some decent ones, cheap ones are meant to be rubbish!

Well an easy way to solve the problem is when fitting the speakers just reinforce it before fitting... should solve it sagging. I would recommend cutting a sheet of ply wood to roughly the shape of the shelf with holes for the speakers... bostick (or any other contact adhesive) it onto the bottom. the plywood is designed not to flex... and if in doubt you can use very short screws to make sure it never moves... plus gives you somethign to seriously cut down on unwanted vibration from the bass.

yep if i do im gonna build a stealth shelf, MDF with acoustic carpet in black probably, going to mount the speakers under the wood/shelf so they are hidden and then put the carpet over. shud be great if i getit done,

but what am i going to do about fixing it to the holes for the parcel shelf on the back of the back seats?

any ideas?

ermmm.. the standard parcel shelf has two recesses built into it... just get some foam cut to shape... should sit on to off the speakers without stopping the bass.

well my parcel shelf now has two big oval shaped holes in it  :p

got some sexual infinity 6x9s and fook me there powerful :|

got them as my rears and connected my 4" JVCs up to the front connection, sounds amazing along with a new HU, all in all the speakers hu and cabling has cost me about 160 quid, and it was money worth spending(y)

though i had to rewire behind the HU as the cables where bloody terrible, it was the worlds biggest mess :( but all sorted now :D

ill get pics when i can

You can get quite a bit in the door bins...
