My Dad's been offered a 1994 Panda Selecta 1108cc for £500- 12 months M.O.T., 70,000 miles, partial service history, three previous owners...

What do you guys think? Is there anything to be looking out for specifically with Selectas?

Any opinions and advice welcome...

MEP is the selecta fan...no doubt he will be along soon. Others love them too....They are not for me, but what I would say is if that gearbox has got to 70,000 it can't be too bad. Check the condition of the fluid..clean and not burnt.

Defo worth it if in a half reasonable condition. The gearboxes either tended to fail around the 15-25k mark or go on forever - I've seen one with 145k on the clock before :)

They're going to be a model that become a little more popular as time goes on I think.

As Kev has said, as long as the gearbox fluid is a blood red and not a burnt red colour all is good, even if burnt red if the origional fluid then it's to be expected and wouldn't cause any great concerns, but should look at changing it with new CVT fluid (y)

When you go to check her, check she sits stationary in D without creeping or any noticeable loading on the engine - then with the lightest of pressure on the accelerator the car should creep slowly, and then pick up as expected from any auto. If she does this then all is good - although if she doesn't it'll probably just be a issue with the accelerator micro switches, but could if it's been present a while (creeping - engine load when stationary with foot off of the accelerator) have led to increased clutch wear, although they're still cheaply and readily available from Fiat (y)

Bought it :) Picked it up today. Seems generally in very nice condition. Doesn't creep forward in drive either  The CVT fluid is a nice bright red and correct level. Also in with the documents was a large receipt showing full refurb of gearbox 10,000 miles ago by FIAT garage (y)

Does look like some of the panels have been resprayed though (possible light front end prang or maybe rust), but all good quality work. Also it has the vinyl pinstripes on the boot but not down the sides.

Needs a good clean, inside & out.

Anyway, here's some pics:

As you can see, the steelies that are on it are quite rusty and the front left is missing the centre-cap...

...luckily, I had my old steelies refurbed, so these will be going on it.

Tidy looking engine bay; do all Selecta's have the blue bits?

Congrats (y) Looking nice!

Mine does not have pinstipes down the side either, so I reckon that's how they are meant to be.

All 1108cc engines have the blue bits, 999cc/black, 750's are bright green :yuck:.

Nice looking car, and glad to hear you're changing the wheels. The gearbox is your biggest worry when buying a Selecta so it's great that you have confirmation of that rebuild.

Look forward to seeing future progress (y).
