Panda 750 CLX – 91(weber 32TLF/Marelli S18-points)
Hi: Im from Portugal-Porto:
Can someone help my panda please…
Lacks power only when engine is hot. Must leave it for at least 3/4 and then its ok again.
Advance vacuum is ok.
Centrifugal advance not sure, coz on the weights one spring is not stretched like the other one.
Points, cap and condenser are new. Spark plugs also, and are very light brown coloured.
Air filter is new. Fuel filter is new. The Fuel pompe is not (mechanical). And the carb is very dirty in the outside.
Brakes are new (all of it) and the rim is not hot when problem arises.
Drivebelt is new, but could it have jumped a tooth? And would that make the engine lack power only when hot?:bang:
Where do i start looking…??? Please help me heal beatifull car (i`ll post some pics asap). Please excuse my poor english.:worship:

Pistons seizing up when hot?????

Check breather tube from carb to air filter box....sometimes has water/emulsion in it. Had that problem before when hot and it slowed the car down...

Hi again, thanks for reply...
already did check a week ago and it had some kind of white maionese (hose to carb), also cleaned the breather hose connecting the air box to oil camshaft cover at the same time.
I drive to work in the morning (45 minutes) and its ok, but if i try to run the car 1/2 hours later, it lacks power, and misfires, not a load noise, but like we would cof in a classic music concert... Damn i should have payed more atention to my english teacher.
P.S.- the thermostatic valve engine to radiator is ok (at least the hose is hot after a while)
Cant seem to upload pics, no permission?
Thanks for the help guys...if somebody has any idea, please help

You need to post six times to be able to upload pictures...kev

Ah ok...thanks

"Pinging, spark knock is a metallic rattling sound produced by the engine during acceleration. Engine ping is usually caused by incorrect ignition timing or a low grade of gasoline".
my Panda also does this

"If the spark is delivered too early, it will burn the fuel prematurely causing the engine to ping, also called pre ignition or knocking. By contrast, if ignition occurs too late, the engine will lack power. In addition, incorrect timing can cause the engine to run rough, reduce fuel efficiency and sometimes even damage the engine".

I dont geat it, mine lacks power and seems to ping at the same time.

need more one more post for uploading pics

Yes rubber boot needs changing, you will also need correct gearbox oil to replace your loss when you change boot unless you are super fast:eek: I have never managed it:cry:

When changin the gaiter (gearbox side) i used ACdelco oil 80w-90 (gl-5) but i was affraid it had some EP components, the dealer said this one was ok...but i m not sure because its a GL-5.

Check coil have you checked vac box on side of dizzy? and also petrol filter carb end of petrol feed.

The coil is never hot, and the vac advance unit is ok.
By the way my carb weber 32TLF doesnt have the small filter inside the carb wich i supose is strange, i`ll try to take a pic of it

Thanks

Hi,

won't be able to help with your power problem but thought I let you know that your english is pretty good and the use of the technical terms in your posts are perfect! (y)
I am sure you will be able to solve the problem with help of the Specialists on here.....

I must admit that your Panda is looking beautiful and I love the deep red colour ( always reminds me of a my favourite Lipstick colour called "Flame" ) - Must be very striking with the sunshine in Porto.....I am a bit jealous!!

Cheers

Heike

Ok have you got more engine oil than when you started. :confused:Has the coolant level dropped out of view in the expansion tank I'm thinking blown head gasket(n) does the car just have no get up and go when its at normal running temp.

Have the points got a clean face not burnt or a blue tint to them are is the face of the contacts clean and flat? The pipe to the vac box sound no splits in it?

If you have checked all the above and problem still continues take off petrol filler cap and see if car runs better!

Same amount of engine oil, thick brownish coloured (changed 3000Kms ago).
Coolant level tends to disapear a bit, 10 cl in 3 month. no mayo in oil filler cap no bubbles in expansion tank when accelerating at iddle.
Yes, especially up hill (10º) can only climb in first gear.

Points are new (o,5mm gap) and they`re clean and flat. the hose in vac dizzy is ok, no splits.
But centrifugal advance i m not sure, one of the weigths has 2 springs, and one is not quite stretched as the other one is. has loads of high temp grease (not seized).
If you have checked all the above and problem still continues take off petrol filler cap and see if car runs better!
Ok i`ll try that after work, but never heard that particular sound (woushss (y)) u know, like pressure, when releasing the gaz filler cap.
Thanks a million Allen
Thanks Bianca, that would be a nice name for my Panda, the "Flame", that reminds me of "flaming Lips" - the band eighties band

This sounds more and more like petrol starvation now you say its when you have a hill to climb check fuel line back to tank. If you have filler cap off you should be able to blow the petrol in the pipe back its not a long pipe run. Could also be petrol pump not strong enough to feed carb when you demand petrol for the hills. Does it run pull ok on the flat? if you gas up does it take its time or does it take up the demand for speed?
