Hi folks,

Have tried finding an answer to this, but couldn't seem to find what I wanted in either the handbooks or forum threads.

Does anyone happen to know what maximum weight a 4x4 Sisley can tow?

I'm not necessarily asking for a "sensible" towing weight, but what can it legally tow (and will I break it trying?!!! ).

I'm considering whether my 117k mile Sisley could reasonably tow a dead Fiat Coupe 16v turbo. Don't ask........ ;) I believe this has a kerbweight of 1320kg which sounds pretty heavy. Not planning to cross the Alps or anything, but don't want to kill my Panda for the sake of saving a few quid on a recovery truck!

Any thoughts?

Cheers, Gavin.

I once towed a 4x4 sierra estate on a rope with a stock panda, the wheels spun to start with, but once we got moving it was fine, it was only a short distance to a fuel station, depends on how far youre going and how good your clutch is (!)..............

Some people on here have used them to tow other pandas plus a dolly so that must weigh about 800kg

will the coupe be on a rope or trailer?

There was a previous thread that might be helpful

Thanks all.

It would definitely be on a rope, so a braked (as much as you get without the engine running anyway!) item.

Not massively worried about the clutch, but concerned over the 4x4 'box as this is expensive to replace - if you can find one!!

Trying to check where it is, but best case is only 2-3 miles to my lockup. :)

I saw that thread - thanks. Got a bit confusticated, particularly as I can't find any towing weights on my Sisley........

Maybe I should set up a poll as to whether Forum members would try it? :tempt:

Cheers, Gavin.

Hiya. What you are planning on doing is indeed illegal, mainly because your planning on towing another vehicle with a rope which is a big no no since the introduction of servo brakes. You legally need to use a tow 'bar'.

Weight. The Sisley's legally capable of towing 1.2 tonnes if the towing item is braked iirc. That works out at about the weight of a normal Panda and a towing dolly.

Tbh if its only short distance I'd do it discreatly. The car should be ok, just might need to use four wheel drive. I've towed a friends 1.9 GT TDi Golf with the Sisley when he smashed his sump, and the sisley coped fine appart from needing four wheel drive on the track up our faem house/college digs.

Hope it helps.

Jon.

I can legally tow up to 800 kg. braked weight in my 1108 4x4. Illegally - I towed a Scorpio on a rope for a short distance, without problems;)

PS. In Poland, of course.

I don't know the British law, but towing a heavier car with a lighter car is illegal in some countries. But this might just be some leftover from the commie times ;-)

Think if you can strip that weight down you'd be legal with a braked dolly.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. It's going to be about 5 miles, and I might (ok would!!) have tried it, but someone offered to tow it on a "bar" (sadly not the licensed variety ;) ) for £20 plus a drink. Not worth me chancing the clutch or anything else really for this amount. :)

Now, who knows how to rebuild a 16VT engine mullered when the cambelt snapped?? No, no, it's for spares............. :ROFLMAO: @ the number of times I've put a "spares" car back on the road.

I can tow 900 kg's legally, not 800. Was driving 4x4 with 4x2's papers for last few days;):D
