hello every one,

thinking about getting a pace intercooler for the coupe, heard good and bad things about them!

i no you get LOADS of lag if you put them on with the standard turbo but i plan to upgrade the turbo to a stage 1 hybrid.

can i have your views on this???

If it's a front mount, dont bother. The side mount is a reasonable upgrade, but the front mount is a waste of time. Just hold off until you can get something that's up to the job.

I wouldn't have a pace intercooler as a gift.
The design makes them very restrictive and causes the original turbo to struggle to provide enough boost to the engine.

You need an Evo6 type or a Pro alloy FMIC IMO.

Do a search on FCCUK forum. The last person that bought a Pace was advised to put it in the bin.

The standard intercooler is ok up to around 280bhp, with a larger turbo. Any more than that you really need a front mount.

On a bigger turbo

So what's the point in getting a bigger turbo if you're then going to restrict it with this intercooler? You'd be better off not bother and save yourself a lot of money.

looking at the design of the FMIC i cant see how the this will restrick the flow??

im aware the standard is ok upto 280bhp, but surley the fmic will do it some justice!!

im going for a stage 1 hybrid turbo which should bring it up to 300bhp, then after the fmic, cat back exhaust system, BMC induction kit and re-mapp, surley the fmic would be more compatable!!!

The problem with it is that the inlet and outleat are on the same side. The aiir has to pass through the internal passageways twice. Onece up to the end, and then back again.

On a normal intercooler it only has to pass through once as the inlet and outlet are on opposite ends.

The reason why Pace designed it like this is probably so it fits into a smaller space with less plumbing, but it makes it very compromised.

The advice is all there for you. If you choose to ignore it and go ahead and fit the intercooler then that's your choice.

well ive brought it now, if it has no effect or makes it worst i will simply take it off and re-sell it again!

i can see what you mean by the inlet and out let on the same side,

but i guess all the info is here and i thank you lot for that, so who knows i will give it a try and see what happens!!

thanks!

Seriously - its not worth the effort to fit it - I guarantee you'll be taking it off again.

NOBODY thats chasing decnt power has ever stuck with this intercooler.

save your time and your skinned knuckles and don't bother fitting it - straight on Ebay and hope the potential buyers don't visit here or FCCUK

A bit off topic,

Symon, are you now keeping your 20vT ?

I did try selling a while back, but I didn't get any sensible offers. I have just re-listed it on pistonheads for £2100. I think it has to be worth that as it is in good order, with below average miles.

Although nothing much is selling at the moment.

I am not desperate to sell, so we will have to see what happens. (y)

I'll post up a link in my signature to the advert as soon as they approve it.

That looks a very nice example. Very similar to mine.

With all the recent work, belts, wishbones etc it should offer someone trouble free motoring. Plus the fact that it is a 155mph car with stunning looks make it a very cheap car indeed.

As you say the motor trade is in a bit of a mess at the moment.
You might just have to wait that little bit longer for a sale,
The cars selling best at the moment are small engined petrols under £1000 and diesels under £1500.
Allthough I recently sold an old Mazda Mx3 V6 within a couple of hours of it being on the front with a sale sign.

I may well keep it yet... I think of selling then I go for a drive and then I don't want to sell. The only problems I have are the running costs. Its not bad on fuel, but it constantly needs money spending on it for little things here and there.

The thing is, if I change it I am likely to get another Alfa which won't be cheap to run either.

i would recommend buying a cheap run about. I have just picked up a little 306hdi for peanuts, the older xud (mechanical pump) engines can be bought very cheap and are cracking engines.
