Technical p0460 code and spark plug gap?

Hi all

It was a nice day on Sunday so i thought i would have a look at the stilo, plugged in the obd2 got a fault p0460 which is a fuel level sensor but where is it?:bang: and would this make it poor on cold start up to pull off the steep drive! (the power just falls away but does not cut out) but it starts first time.

Also took a plugs out to have a look at the mixture but the gap seamed rather wide about .088mm does any one know the gap size?.
Have had a search but can't find any info.

Sorry I cant help you here and I cant seem to find any info from google isn't it just a pain when you cant even get the simplest of information there really IS a need for a manual for these cars

Should be on eLearn CD possibly - not that I have it to hand right now.

Have had a look on eLearn disk but no info on spark plug gap. I was always told you should check the plug gap when you buy new plugs as they might have took a knock in transit. i can't belive that this as not cropped up before.

Different plugs for different engines but
Champion RC10YCC used on 1.6 and 1.8 is 0,8mm gap

The fuel level sensor just senses how much fuel you have so it won't affect engine performance

Thanks i would have won my bet, but have you any ideas on p0460 fault.

Low voltage/ hi voltage/ intermittent connection/ voltage spike/ low battery - take your choice

It will probably clear itself aftr a few restarts if the fault is a one off or you could clear the DTC and see if it reappears

Iirc 1.6 16v with a fuel level sender problem normally requires a flash update on the ecu - carried out by Fiat using the examiner.

What does the update do? Make it less sensitive and alter the trigger voltage signals level before the DTC is to be recorded?

I find it weird that a car goes 3 years without having a problem, then, when it detects a fault it needs a brain transplant.

I mean- it can't think these faults up- there has to be what it is progammed to call a fault for it to trigger- even if it is a tad over sensitive and just needs a stiff drink

Yes I can see that something like Win XP has updates to improve what it does and cure design errors and omissions that have been there from square one but if it's been going for 3 years without any recorded faults then why was it humming along happily without the need of the update before?

I cleared fault on sunday but it came back this morning when i tested it. Do you think it will affect the running of the car or is it just another one of them faults that we have to put up with. ha ha
As for the ecu flash when i phoned are local fiat dealers they said as there is no service history and just over 3 years by 6 weeks it would cost £70 to connect to there computer plus a charge if it needed ecu updating as this would have been done if the car had been serviced ( but as i said i have no history only had car for 4months )

Well i would have thought that at the most things like "miles to empty" and fuel gauge accuracy might just be affected
