Technical P0403 code on 2011 Ducato 2.3

I have had the engine light come on my van, it is 2011 ducato 2.3 multijet 120
I put my scanner on and it records EGR P0403 code. Is this the solenoid fault or do I need to do a clean it up job? Occasionally when hot and restarting the tickover idles for a short time but doesnt affect the running and it then rights itself after a short time. However now the light stays on even after deleting the code.
Any suggestions please

Sorry, forgot to say, the van has done 265,000 miles

The ECU has no means to verify an EGR issue at starting time, other than an open circuit at the solenoid. If the deleted code reappears immediately, it can only be the solenoid or (if you have really bad luck) the ECU itself.

The EGR operating solenoid is behind the white plate at top centre of the engine compartment (it will have two vacuum tubes connected as well as the electrical connection)

What is the easiest way to test the solenoid?

To test the solenoid apply 12V to the terminals after the plug has been removed.
There should be a distinct clicking sound and if the engine has been running prior to your test you will also hear some air when the vacuum channel to the EGR valve opens.

Sorry to sound stupid( I probably am) which connector do i put the supply to?
Should the solenoid click when i turn the ignition and will i hear it?
