Hi All,
Hope you can help.I have just had a general service and some welding done on my 2001 2.8jtd Ducato Motorhome.on collection I noticed the injector warning light on the Dash was on,so taking it to my auto electrician for a diognostic and code clearance the Code P0180 was showing on the screen ,after several attemps to clear the code being unsucessful I was wondering if someone knows the location of this sensor or any help in solving this problem as I am hoping to go to Europe on the 15th.

Hi

I don't have much documentation on this vehicle, but the first place I would look is towards the top of the fuel filter. If there is a multiway connector check it for tightness and cleanliness. These filters are prone to leaks when disturbed. Was the element changed during the service ? Is there any diesel fuel on the outside ?

If the sensor's not there, it might be the type screwed into the side of the HP fuel pump

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your reply and yes the fuel filter should have been changed during the service??but if that is not the problem were would I locate the High Pressure Fuel Pump and Sensor within the engine bay?
Regards Bernard.

Hi Bernard

I am assuming that your engine is the Iveco 8140.43S with common rail injection. The HP fuel pump is driven from the cambelt, so looking at the engine it's on the left (UK driver's side) about halfway down.

This video from a dismantler shows a walk round of this type of engine removed from a vehicle:

To give you an idea of what you are lookig for, the pictures show the injection pump on its own, and the fuel filter, which is normally mounted on the bulkhead on the right (uk passenger side)

As Anthony has stated, the Fiat 2.8jtd engine is indeed a Sofim 8140.43s. This engine was also used in the Iveco Daily, but with the difference that the oil filter was mounted vertically.
It is my understanding that it was the later plastic bodied UFI filter that sometimes leaked after servicing. This was most probably due to the required special tool not being used to hold the filter body while servicing. I have yet to experience leaks after changing the element in the UFI filter fitted to my 2006 x244 2.8jtd.

Below is an extract from eLearn for the x244, early versions of which used the same metal cannister fuel filter as in the photo attached by @Anthony489, and used in the earlier x230 model. Please not that "driver's side" will relate to a LHD vehicle.

Fuel filter

The fuel filter is located in the engine bay on the driver's side and secured to the passenger compartment - engine bay bulkhead.
The filter is cartridge type with a filter element. It is fitted with a fuel preheating device controlled by a thermal switch fitted to the filter. When diesel fuel temperature is lower than 6 °C, an electrical coil heats the fuel to a maximum of 15 °C before directing it to the pressure pump.
A water presence sensor screwed to the base of the fuel filter cartridge also acts as a drain.

  • 1 - Filter cartridge.
  • 2 - Fuel inlet from tank.
  • 3 - Fuel outlet to radialjet pump.
  • 4 - Cap with water presence sensor in filter.
  • 5 - Fuel temperature sensor.
  • 6 - Fuel preheating.
  • 7 - Pipe from high pressure pump to fuel filter.

Thanks Anthony,
this could be exactly what I am looking for,I will show this to my mechanic this should give him a good impression of what may need doing.
Thanks Bernard
