Re: Cars Ive owned

1st - Fiesta 1.1L (Blue)
2nd - Clio 1.2RN (White)
Current - Bravo 1.8 HLX (Black)

Bravo was a huge change from the other two and the first time I'd spend more than a grand on a car.

After 9 or so months it still makes me smile when I look at it, i love the body shape.

Re: Cars Ive owned

My last car was a 1.6 405 gr, it was my first car and it did me proud. Stuck to the road like glue, much better than the bravo, but then again it did weigh about 3 tonnes lol :)

Re: Cars Ive owned

Triumph Dolomite - 12 year old when bought for £200. Great first car but could never get the carb working properly

Maestro 1.3. Roomy - useful for changing baby's nappy in rear. Lusted after speedy MG version.

Astra 1.4 - basic model. underpowered.

Escort 1.4 - ditto

Daewoo Espero 1.8 cdi. Got it at 1 year old. Roomy with lots of toys but dated design. Timing belt snapped and fecked engine. Not worth repairing.

1998 Fiat Brava 1.8 ELX. Grey/silver. Love this car - best ever. Great engine and still looks fabby. Wish it had less than 85K on clock. Need to keep it another 2 years.

Re: Cars Ive owned

1st. Peugeot 106 (Mk1) 1.5 Diesel.
Now. Bravo 1.4Sx

Re: Cars Ive owned

Okay. Starting from now and working back – dates are approximately when I bought the cars:

2001 Bravo jtd
1999 Alfa 33 P4
(amazing car - just couldn't do the mileage without breaking bits)
1996 Alfa 33 16V Cloverleaf
(ran it into the ground never had any bother in 70K miles, died of rust in the end with 120K on the clock)
1995 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9
(mad car but fun - steering too heavy for the missus and tiring on a long run)
1995 Vauxhall Cavalier Diesel Estate
(Freebie from my brother with 200K miles and 3 months MoT. Slowest car I have ever driven! Kept me mobile until I found the 205)
1995 MG Montego 2.0
(bought at auction, hated it from day one, sold it after a fortnight - made £100 profit, not all bad then)
1993 Astra Van/Astra GTE Mk1
(started building a house so bought the van for carting stuff and the GTE for driving. Van was okay. GTE was great to drive but floorpan rusted away in 9 months. Lesson: never go to look at a car wearing a suit unless it is a boiler suit)
1991 Honda Accord Aerodeck 2.0 Exi
(the 3-door version. Nice car but everything cost £300 to fix. CV joint £300, clutch £300, radiator £300, 2 rear ball joints £300, exhaust £300)
1989 Mk2 Vx Cavalier Sri
(Surprisingly good fast car. Handled well too.)
1989 Renault 9 1.4
(worst car ever owned can't think of anything good to say about it other than it was a nice colour and it was in perfect condition. Sold it after 4 weeks)
1989 Renault 5 Automatic
(It was the only car I could afford when the Rancho went on fire! Fun in the corners considering how slow it was. Left foot braking!)
1988 Talbot Matra Rancho
(A lot better in its day than a Streetwise! Better than you might think to drive)
1986 rhd Matra Simca Bagheera S
(Superbly designed French sportscar. Mid-engined, three seats, plastic body. Just a shame they forgot to paint the chassis! Managed to rebuild it and sold it for £1K more than I paid for it. Should have kept it though!)
1985 Renault 6
(bought for next to nothing with hardly any miles on the clock. Fine for basic transport)
1980 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe
(bought it during a year out from uni. Someone else's unfinished project that I finished and got it on the road. Great engine. Always liked Italian cars after that. Another one I should have kept)
1979 Hilman Imp
(Left school and bought a car without an engine for £100. Old man went spare! However, found an engine in a plastic bag behind someone's garage (honestly), he even got it running on the garage floor! £25 later I had a runner. Shame I didn't know to clean the radiator to stop the new engine cooking. Lasted 10 month then blew up)

Re: Cars Ive owned

in this order i had
a 1990 Nissan Micra 1.0 LS
a 1997 Fiat Bravo 1.4 S
a 1999 Fiat Bravo 1.8 HLX

thats it... its a short list, but i'm only 22, at least for another couple of weeks anyway.

loved them all for their own different reasons.

Re: Cars Ive owned

Earliest,

Tirumph Vitesse Mk2 convertible - great sound of
the tuned straight six on full blast. Spent christmas night on drive way of Buckingham Palace. Got some mince pies and port from the friendly family within. Cheered my sister up as by then she wasn't talking to me.

Mini 850 - great car, 104mph......... in reverse at Snetterton.

Fiat 125 - the Italian bug bites. great engine for a 1608 way ahead of it's time. fell apart on my hands though. sub standard Russian steel.

Lancia Fulvia 1.6HF wish I'd kept this as now a very appreciating classic. Great handling and style.

Nearly bought a Lancia Beta Coupe 2l but the time was wrong and the car wasn't right.

Renault 12 TL - jelly on wheels. Give it it's due it never blew up, quite why not, I never knew. Perhaps the engine was stronger than the flimsy seats and trim suggested.

As above post toyed with a Matra Bagherra S - far out French period interior.

Drove an MG Metro for the first and last time. What a pile of crap. Road test lasted 11 minutes. 7 of these were pushing it to make it start.

Lancia Beta HPE Volumex - superb practicality and performance from the 2l supercharged twin cam engine. It was quicker then everyhting in it's class except the Crapri 2.8 injection.

Lancia Delta Integrale 16v - expensive love affair that nearly bankrupted me. Should have been a one night stand. But nice while it lasted. Still recovering even though some years ago now. Memorable drive from the New Forest up through North Wales to Holyhead then across to Dublin and up to Antrim in a very circuitous route.

Triumph Vitesse 2l Mk1 saloon for historic rallying. Different but not competitive enough. The sheep on Epynt enjoyed seeing it go back and forth. Poor electrics.

VW camper van, slow and cramped even for two. But had the early split screen and bags of street cred. Could sleep with your passengers as well. Saw most of Northern and Middle Italy in this. Wanted to go lower but got slapped.

Renault Master van - indestructible and very functional, white of course. Pourquoi pas?

Holden Pick up Ute - V8 running on dual fuel. Awesome acceleration. Great for the outback. range of almost 1000 miles.

Toyota Landcrusier - much better than a Range Rover, go anywhere any time, rivers, sea, sand dunes, deserts, mountains and cities and not get stuck. Millions of them in Oz as they are good.

Yamaha RD125 fun and economical
Yamaha RD350 LC - a scream. If I'd kept it I wouldn't be here.
Suzuki GS 750 - forgetable

Peugeot 205 STDT (GTi Lookalike) - first tentative steps into oil burners. No going back. Best all round handling car I've driven and so frugal as well. Tuned it, so nearly as quick as a 1.6GTi but twice as economical.

Brompton L6 - the best vehicle I've ever bought.
Novelty value as a crowd puller, but gets wearing after a time. Will never sell. Unfortunatley stolen form outside London University despite having been locked with a motorbike lock. Bastards. Eventually get another but not before telling insurers a thing or two.

Ford Escort Mk4 TD - crap avoid. Felt like all wheels had different ideas on which way they wanted to travel.

Ford Foci 1.6, 2.0 and TD. Ok chassis but the rest bland. Performance lack lustre.

Fiat Punto ELX 1.9 JTD. Handling okay but would be frightening with a remap without uprated suspension and brakes. Not a patch on the Pug. Interior gimmicky. Woeful seats as don't hold you in at all like the Pugs Recaros.

Alfa 147 GTA - awesome absolutely awesome. High point.

Peugeot 307 HDi - slow and boring

Seat Ibiza TDi 130 Sport - rock hard ride. Needed a chiropractor after this one.

Golf GTi TD 150. Poor, vague, soggy and boring. Felt like driving your grandmas knackered arm chair and this was the new model. One big disappointment.

Golf Polo TDi 75. I can yawn more forcefully.

Renault Clio dCi 100 - Pretty good nearly bought one but couldn't get over the ultra flimsy plastic wings. Sports interior unavailable

Alfa 147 M-Jet 140bhp lusso. Practical alternative to the GTA and affordable to run everyday. Sadly GTA sport interior unavailable otherwise this would have sealed the deal.

Currently the main car is the Bravo, but can't bring myself to aprt with the 205 especially as fuel prices are hitting nearly £1 per litre

Fiat Bravo JTD HLX - Ok I s'pose. Black the best colour really.

Skoda Fabia VRS only for 2 day test though, really quite good, nice positve ride, pretty quick, hits 80 in no time, but n/a as 3 door or no choice of interiors. Don't like the one they provide as std. So no go.

Tried a Peugeot 206 HDi 1.4 in France as a hire car - 70mpg and pretty quick, thought it was the 1.6 HDi at first. good handling not rock hard. Could live with this one but would ultimatley need more poke. Tried the older 206 HDi when they first came out but it wasn't very inspiring, not compared to the old 205 or the Clio dCi.

Next? Alfa 147 M jet 150bhp 3 door Lusso with Sports interior and 17 inch wheels.

Also on the cards a lancia montecarlo with the Alfa 3.0l V6 24v engine to give it a bit more.......go.

Re: Cars Ive owned

i omitted the Bravo 1.9TD 100 I had before the JTD. Pretty good really, ok, a bit older than the JTD but just as fun with the big turbo. real sensation of accelertion as the turbo came in. Quicker of the two in std tune.
