right, i dont know whats going on here but, here goes, sometimes, when i switch on my gp, its fine for a few seconds then says excess engine temp, switch off, so i do, wait a few seconds and its fine again...

so im thinking the worst at this point, head gasket ect... its not smoking, and theres no mayo on the oil filler cap. theres plently of coolant too. So now im thinking maybe some sort of sensor? my garage mate has plugged it into his diagnostic machine and apart from the service indicator its fine :s

so i dont know what to check next. anyone else have or had this problem? or have an idea on what it could be?

Andy....

Suggest we make a X & X & X & X sticky

Where the X, = Rad Temp, Engine Temp, Etc the flat battery issues

One problem there is there would be about 50 stickies........

thats why we have the link i posted above.....

has 19 known issues in

Before we start on

rattling drop links

boot not opening

How to change the wipers

Battery

Earth strap

Sticking up dash trim

Led side light bulbs throwing warning messages

you get the idea ;)

can someone shed some light on this in terms of where i can get this fixed? is it a main dealer problem or can a mechanic with a good diagnostic computer sort this out? its an 07 grande punto 1.2 active :slayer:

Software update was Main Dealer only (it was free at the time, but that was a while ago now so there may be a small charge). Speak to your Dealer and see what they say.

Otherwise, a fresh, heavy duty battery will suffice. This issue always rears it head when the weather gets bad and battery's are put under strain. ;)

and the battery is fine, got it tested for free at hellfrauds and they said its fine :s

Yes, electrical gremlin not really overheating. If you think about it, the engine couldn't possibly overheat in a few seconds of running anyway.

Often they do test 'ok', but it's the voltage drop while cranking in very cold weather that causes the error (due to the programming oversight by Fiat). If you start getting the starter motor grind/delayed cranking issue and you've still got the 200A original spec battery on there, I'd recommend uprating it.

Hi there , had same problem . Dealer did a software update for this fault but did not cure problem . Ended up needing a new ecu :(

There were a small number of ECU's that couldn't be updated with the new programming, and the only option was a new ECU (covered by warranty/goodwill at the time). Fiat made it very clear what version ECU could not be reprogrammed by stating the software number (readable via Examiner) in the Technical Bulletin, so the Dealer should know.
