I fell over a long thread on it in the Multipla section the other day, complete with instructions on fitting grease nipples to prevent the bearings drying out. Well worth a read.

Right now I'm looking for the most economical way to correct the rear axle issue of our 13 year old Palio Weekend.
Obviously, the repair set is the least expensive, but I wonder if it's an easy job to get the new bearings in....??

Never done it, but from the Multipla thread it seems that the issue is getting the old ones out!

I've read it.
So it seems worth getting the overhaul kit instead of complete new arms....

What kind of grease is used on those bearings?
Right now, black grease is coming out...

If black, I'd guess a molybdenum or graphite grease similar to that used in pot joints.

I just ordered two new bearing sets.
I guess any kind good quality bearing grease will do, as there is not much movement, is there?
Next week we will give it a try and renew those bearings.
(Just in time for our Ardennes holiday I hope....!!)

Ordinary multipurpose bearing grease will be fine.
The current stuff is probably black because it is old and dried out.
No need for molybdenum disulphide.

Done the overhaul today.
Everything went smoothly.
The rightside bearings were completely shot, they disintegrated when we took them out....!
Used a lot of quality grease, so the car will be fine for a long time...!

Mapco 34054 is what I used.
