storing cars, starting them up every week for a few minutes will do more harm than good
It certainly does do more harm than good. I never start cars unless they are going to be driven and alllowed to heat right through.
For each litre of petrol you burn, a car produces a litre of water that exits through the exhaust. Combine that with the gases in your exhaust and you have a slightly acidic fluid. Unless the exhaust is heated through, the water condenses inside the exhaust pipe and will rot it's way through.
Tyres will flat spot unless you either put the car on axle stands or drive it regularly.
If you're worried about your battery, buy a conditioner. Lidl often have them on their offers for about £15 or pay £50 for a CTEK one.
Actually driving the car gets all the gearbox and drive shafts turning, the brake surfaces rubbed down, the engine heated through, the tyres rotated, air through the cavities etc. A brief start up in the garage is a waste of time and certainly does more harm than good.
