General Over Heating Engine

Hi All,

I did a run down the A50 today, and when i topped 70MPH i noticed that the thermostat needle was reading above the red.
I pulled over, checked the usual, rad resevoir, oil. There seemed to be water/coolant in the tank. I let it cool a bit and topped it up slightly when cool.
The engine now over heats mega fast. All the time!
The heater however is running HOT!

Is this a sign of knackered thermostat? Blocked pipes? or something more serious.?

Im fairly handy when i know what the problem is, and was hoping to get this sorted this weekend.

Any advise/help?

I'd think compression test first.

Usually -- but I'm not 100% au fait with later Mk2 Puntos -- if the stat is stuck shut they'll boil up very quickly and the heater won't come on at all.

if radiator is hot - thermostat is ok.

HG failure most likely; compression test will clarify if ok change themostat and bleed system thoroughly; see guides for this......
