OT - pop up hell!

I am getting pop ups still after installing numerous bits of software, ie. adsubtract, adblocker, adaware, spy subtract, etc. I even have mozilla firefox with its alleged popup blocker. I have the trial version of registry mechanic and it says I have 517 errors that need repaired and only 55 of these are free. Does software like this exaggerate errors so u pay for the full version??? Its really driving me mad now!
Every other programme cleans up ad software which then magically reappears if I do a sweep straight after I delete the offending files! Any help will be appreciated.

Have you got the dreaded "about:blank" virus? ie "about:blank" appears in e xplorer and a stupid search page comes up every time?

www.pcpowerscan.com keeps appearing in a seperate window. This leads me to beleive that they have installed something to bypass all of my adblockers. No wonder they have 1.5m downloads!

To eliminate pop ups when browsing, use Avant Browser. It's an IE modification that gives you tabbed browsing and a superb pop up blocker.

You might also want to try installing and running Spybot-Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware 6, both free and will rid your system of any spyware or adware.

Then you should get yourself a decent firewall. Zone Labs do a free version of Zone Alarm, and the Pro version isn't that expensive. Do not rely on the Windows XP firewall (if that's the OS you're running...it's total pants)
