some of our users are awful at backing up their data that isnt held on the server,

most of it is just done through batch files run manually at the moment.

I was thinking of putting the batch file in as a log off script, but my boss thinks it will annoy them too much as will make logging off take longer every time

I thought as a compromise, to remind them a bit I would like to put it in the log off script, but change the batch file so it just asks if you would you like to back up your data press Y or N etc etc.

I have changed the batch file so it asks easily enough, but when i so this the pc's just sit on running log off scripts when shuttign down.

It doesnt even show the command prompt window?

I guess i just cant put a question in the batch file if its a log off script?

alternative is i just put the shutdown command in the batch so it shuts down after backing up as they are all xp machines?

any thoughts?

The other day I was playing with Logon scripts and couldn't even manage to copy a HOSTS file across to all XP systems from the server using Active Directory. To be honest I gave up and thought I'd look at it when I really needed to do it.

For some reason, it just "doesn't seem to work".

Ie. I can't see any batch script run either when a user logs off/logs on (tested it on my account!)

Glad to know it's not just me :)

re

we have a piece of software to audit PC's, and i have a batch file in the logon scripts that just calls this program with some switches after!

that works ok!
