OT - ebay help

i am selling a laptop on ebay, got an email from someone as posted below. You think it's genuine? What should i do? Anyone heard of western union auction payment?

The email;

i like to buy this SONY VAIO PCG GRT786M - P4 DVD+/-RW + Extras from you and i can't wait till the bid end i will give you 1800$ us dollars for the phone if you are intrested in selling it for me and i will pay you by western unon auction payment and immediately the money approval mail has been sent to you, i will pick the SONY VAIO PCG GRT786M - P4 DVD+/-RW + Extras with my fedex account for the shipping to my wife in west africa. thanks.

Never pay via western union, if it back fires you will be left with nowt whereas you can claim back with paypal.
I've heard of those sort of people trying that route of fraud before.

i wasn't too convinced either, i have said he can have it if he pays via paypal. I can't understand why someone from america would buy a laptop from the uk to send to south africa. Laptops are cheaper in the US anyway.

It is also against eBay policy and rules to email a seller offering to purchase the item without going through the auction process.

Report him and steer well clear.

I would be very sceptical..

I would just tell him you can't accept that form of payment, but can accept paypal.

As you say laptops are really cheap in the US so why buy from the UK. Unless its something to do with duty?

you could be right daz, aparantly to import a new item from the US to africa subjects you to about a 40% tax if it's something that can be got locally. It's less for 2nd hand stuff.

Not sure on the entire details but it's something to that affect.

As far as i'm concerned if the money goes into my bank he can take it, ebay have already been paid there £20 to list it so i'm not worried about their rules. I can also take it off his credit card through work and it's secure if i have the digits off the back, so i'll see what he comes back with.
