Here's one for you me and few mates at work (Halfords) have been trying to do this.

Find a car which has a 0-60 time of under 8.9secs, but is under group 10 insurance. Not as easy as you think. And it can't be some obscure one off special edition.

Have fun

is there such a car? :(
the only thing i can think of is a mini towed by a ferrari :)

I knew an AX GT was going to come up somewhere. Any other suggestions?

OOps it has to be standard.

Its quite possible to do by changing the engine etc, but a standard car is hte tricky one.

BMW Mini Cooper 1598cc 8 115bhp 1145kg 8.5secs 124mph

Heres the one to beat:

Daihatsu Sirion 1.3 Rally 2, 107bhp 0-60 7.8sec Ins 10

2003 MG ZT Saloon 160
160.4 hp / 118 kw @ 5500 RPM
0-60 mph 8.5 sec

insurance group 10 ;)

Peugeot 106 Xsi 0-60 not long after 8 seconds, top speed 122mph was the most I got out of it, insurance group 10 which equaled £1600 a year when I was 17. Great first car to have, it weighed next to nothing with 100BHP and 7,000rpm though the gears. Bought it for £2500 and two years later my Dad sold it for £900, bloody muppet! The last time I leave him to sell anything of mine!!

I win !!!! Have a look at the mk4 Astra here

The 1.8 cars - 0-60 in 8.5s and some are as low as insurance group 8

I think parkers is being a little ambitious about the Astra's performance. Look at the weight difference between it and a ford puma, they both have the same amount of power.

Ford Puma 1.7i 16V 3d 1679/4123,
Weight: 1039Kg
BHP: 123
Top speed: 126mph
0-60: 9.2

Astra coupe 1.8i 16v 2d 1796/4
Weight: 1294kg
BHP: 123
Top speed: 130mph
0-60: 8.5

Astra has about 20Nm more torque as is probably about as fast as the Puma - other sites rate both at 9.2s

On a side note - have a look at this website. What the hell is a Puma doing in that list!!!

True, is does look a bit out of place in the company a ferari F50s etc. Then again, name a front wheel drive car (production car) that handles better than a puma? imo there isn't one.

LOL! I've driven a focus round castle combe racing circuit and it's no where near a puma. The only thing that I found to come close is a Pug 106 Gti.
