Hi All,

I have ordered my new 500 a week ago ((((YEAH!!!! Cant wait!!! Am going from an Audi A4 2.0Litre TDI company car butr loved the drive of the 500 instantly!)))) and hopefully it will be with me by the end of March (I ordered one about to be built and was apparently a code 16 Fixed....dealer says this hopefully means it will be here by end of March!?)

Anyway, I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with:

1) Have not been offered it yet but was wondering everyones thoughts on some protection like Supaguard/ Autoglym? I know the dealers usually charge a fortune but was wondering was it worth getting something done, esp on the material of the interior...1.2 Lounge?

2) Anyone got a bootliner? I have seen this one on parts world but wondered ig anyone has got experience of them....heard sometimes they are not great fits?

partsworld-uk.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_385_411_656&products_id=430

3) Tax disc holders......some may think this is not an important one but I really cant stand the standard dealer plastic tax disc holder on ANY car yet alone one as lovely as the 500.....so has anyone gor a decent 500 one or know where to get one?

4) Is there anything else I should consider getting or doing for my 500 before or after it arrives?

Any help to this 500 noob is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Far better to get it done properly by a professional valeter/detailer like Mark Elvin on this forum. The cost will almost certainly be less, especially on a new car and will be much longer lasting.

2) Anyone got a bootliner? I have seen this one on parts world but wondered ig anyone has got experience of them....heard sometimes they are not great fits?

Get in contact with Chris@souls as he will give forum members a discount and the added bonus is that he hates wrapping them up, LOL. I got mine from him and being the genuine article it fits perfectly.

Plenty about in various designs on ebay.

Keep reading the forum.

Thanks Grimwau and Mark,

I contacted a locla valeting service but they said for a new 500 with the complete Autoglym Lifeshine product range, they would charge £295 to apply.

I then spoke to my Fiat dealer who said they are now using a new product called G3(?) and they would do for £350. Once I said that I was looking at this forum to see what was recommended the dealer then said, "look around and see what you can find and then come back and we can see if we can match the quotes you are getting for applying a similar product"---Interesting?

Anyway, I take it I can get these products applied professionally for a lot less?

G3 is a rubbing compound used mainly by bodyshops i'm 99% sure its not a wax or any kind of protectant its used for taking out scratches /paintwork imperfections. ( mark will hopefully ad to this and make it clearer ) but one thing is sure you dont want a brand new paintjob being rubbed with g3

White, Farecla G7 was definitely an abrasive polishing compound we used to use for machine polishing when I had my garage and I assume that there is also a G3 now from looking at your post so I think there must be another answer to the G3 name.

I'm sure that Mark will have an answer later.

Wavey, you could also get a price for the proper job from Mark as, subject to his whim, he will travel to where you are based.

See here for an example.

Yeah as stated unless it's some new product G3 is a rubbing compound. It's does the very opposite of protecting paint.

The dealer told me it was a new prdouct that replaced the old 'supaguard'/ 'autoglym' type of protection. Will try and find out more details.....however, having read the reviews I will definately get a local valet prof to do it for me.

Some of them use Autoglum Lifeshine......is this a good product or shold I look for a service that uses anohter product??

P.S. I am based near junction 3/4 on M3 in Surrey...anyone know someone who could do an all over protection job for me near here?

Two things that I wouldn't have done, looking back, were Gardex, & the stripes I had (red, white & green side stripes).

I think the Gardex is over priced for what it does. I would have had the upholstery Scotchguarded, though.

The stripe, I would have had done by someone who does sign writing, and had it done much slimmer & running right round the back.

The only other extra, I had was the door protectectors which have been worth it, judging by the lack of damage caused by the woman I saw clattering my door in the local Tesco car park.

Hope this helps

Are door protectors the same as the rubbing strips? or are they something else?
