In October one of our neighbours decided to use the back of our Qubo instead of her brakes, insurance details were exchanged, and our insurer Tesco was informed.

3 days later off went the car to Tesco's preferred suppiier in Falkirk for repaired, and we were told it would be about 10 days as the damage was all to the tailgate and rear bumper.

10 days later car was returned, repair looked fine, BUT, we now had silver paint over the front bumper (mine is cool jazz blue), they had scratched the inside, and put a ding in the outside of the drivers door, and the liner on the inside of the tailgate was loose, plus the was now a funny clicking noise coming from the steering.

Garage was contacted, and I was told that they would have to check the vehicle photo's and call me back. They did some hours later, and I gat an apology and they would collect the cat on the Tuesday.

Car returned on Wednesday, 95% of the paint was removed, ding on outside of drivers soor sorted, and the rest was ignored. Clicking noise from steering now sounds like the floor pan is being struck by a hammer.

I have now had enough, and contact Tesco, who put me in touch with one of their engineers, (he is now not a happy bunny after he learns what has happened), and we agree that the car go to Border Cars for repair.

Border Cars collect, and i'm called that night to be told, noise from steering is due to a strut bearing failure. Loose tailgate inner cover, due to Falkirk garage breaking 12 of the clips and not replacing them, and was I aware that the;y had damaged my nearside mirror.

Anyway Border Cars made a good jov of the repiars, and the car was returned some 5 weeks after it was hit. Throughout this 5 week period Teco's were as much good as an ashtray on a motorbike. They left us without transport for 5 weeks, although we pay Tesco for a courtesy car in cases such as this and although it states on Tesco's insurers handbood its FREE, the first thing both hire companys want is your credit card details.
In fact one of the companys Help Car Hire cannot supply a car unless you have e-mail. Dont some of these companys realise that not all folks have credit cards or e-mail???. GRRRRR

To add insut to injury soon after we got the car back we got a puncture in the offside rear..........wonna know what they took out of the tyre??. The end of an HT lead the end that goes on the plug,.....wonder where that came from.

Anyway i've had a good rant, my wife now refuses to enter a Tesco shop, she binned her Tesco Mobile, Club cards have been sent back.

Above is only half the probs we had, and the matter is not ended yet, as the second time the tailgate liner fell out it hit me on the face, bursting my nose , and smashing my glasses.

Can anyone recommend a good insurer??

cheers Ian

Many thanks Dobbin, it just seems to have escalated out of all proportion.
Between body shops who dont take care of other peoples property, as they should, and its what they get paid for, too car hire company's who soom to think they are above the law.

To give you an example, shen the car went to Border Cars, Tesco told us to get a car from Enterprise Car Hire. The good lady wnt up to there depot, and she asked if she could see the car as I now have a guide dog, and as he is a 34 kilo Labradoodle, he needs a good bit of room. She was told by the staff that the company has a NO DOGS policy, and that they were exempt from the Disability Discrimination Act, at this point the red mist came down, and she told them where to put their car.

The real pain has been Tesco, although I sent a letter of complaint, they have taken no action with regards to any of the problems faced, and seem to reckon its up to me to do this.

We are quite forunate in having 2 lawyers as close relatives, both have said that the bodyshop could face a charge of criminal neglegence for returning the car in an unroadworthy condition, and both feel Tesco should be taken in front of the ombudsman for their handling on the situation.

cheers Ian

Hi Highlander, Thats quite a tale of woe.............really hope that things improve for you in 2012. As per insurance companies, happen they are all the same, quick to take your cash......then when you need them !!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy New Year.
