I had quite a few extra holes too, the smaller ones I just stuck grommets in from halfords. The heater pipes I lined the edges of the holes with rubber u channel stuff to stop the pipes chaifing on the edges. The larger bits I glassed over an will cover them with soundproofing felt when I get to the interior.

Just to keep this blog alive my update is that all the wiring is now done apart from the reversing lights and horn, will sort those. I have decided to retro fit the cossy rear light cluster and a square rear number plate. Will also not be putting on the stainless steel kick plates for the onyx as I want to keep the weight to an absolute min. The dash also is being ditched as im sure I can make it lighter. I'm woking on a diffuser for the rear that has been started, you can just see it in some of my pics.

Hi Steve, your exhaust, is it a standard or is it a made to measure one.

as you probably guessed by the other posts i in limbo at moment, need to to finish off in the engine bay the piping and a few wires then can fit radiator(the donor is longer than the one fitted so have to chop n weld a support back on)

but at a loss as to where some wires and pipes go......seems i used dodgy way labeling things up cos the tape has come off.....

oh well, suppose i can do other stuff whilst i figure it out.

kevin

PS, any new picks yet..

I'll post more pics when I think I've got enough to be of interest. I was trying to get an mot this year but due to some things taking longer I'm going to do all the bits I'd planned and go for mot in spring. I also think the gaps between the door and pillar where to big so have extended the pillar now only have a small gap. Looks much neater. I'm aiming for a weight of 500 kgs. Don't know if thats possible but it's my goal.

Hi kevin the exhaust is standard up to the Yam R1 can I fitted an adapter an two home made rubber hangers to the chassis at convenient points. very simple only took an hour to do. Bleeding a completely new braking system took considerably longer an I thought that would be easy. The loom I knew would give me problems and I was'nt disapointed steve.

i not done the bleeding yet, but have an easybleed kit so might be a touch easier.

i think i have the dreaded point where the "cant be bothered now" because i was in the garage yesterday and achieved nothing except look at it...fuel lines in(but not clipped to underneath), charcoal canister pipes in (not fitted to chassis yet), need to make some adaptors to hole the bigger fuel tank then can fit that.....

in all its the little piddly jobs need finishing....

will c how it goes this week.

kevin

PS, just miffed i cant finish the wires and pipes to the SPI and engine, think thats why i lost interest this week.

Yes certainly know that feeling, but with me when I do do something and it goes right I get back my mojo and carry on. The brakes were all renewed pipes calipers cylinders disks the lot. I too had an easybleed. No use at all. With no fluid in the system nothing would pump past the master cylinder. Three weeks it took me, at least an hour a day. I resprayed it three times, and I still have some bits to tidy up. I have so little space to work in that I can only work with the car half in the garage had to spray a section at a time. B ut In just love the way it looks and know it will be worth the effort.

Err not really, although I think that would be a good system, Mine is a standard one, but I dont know from what car, it's a fiat system all the way up to the can. Just put an adapter on to bring the pipe up to the can diameter and kept everything as straight as I could for good gas flow. I'll take pics but it's dark now. tomorrow time permitting.

That exhaust system looks really good, if the postage is not silly its a good deal. Mine is the cast iron manifold with the pipe bolted to it, was with the car when I bought it, was'nt in bad condition so kept it as was. The nature of the car is that you can fit hangers almost anywhere, as long as it's not to close to the tank and it will be fine. I would like mine to have been in the centre, maybe when I replace it I might do that.
 Steve, ps. you can see mine in the posted pics.

Well i wired the dash pod up, steering column wires and battery..........YES, it all lit up, lights worked, indicators worked and it turned over(only a flick mind cos no oil or water in yet)....getting some new pipes on saturday for water so that will be filled, figured out where all the water pipes go now as well.

now i just get the tank fitted(need to weld some brackets on for that), the fuel lines in and P clipped up to tunnel.allready so not too far of a full try at starting.....

mmmwwwaaarrghhhhhh....

dont feel to bad now...

oh and i got an AIR riviter for my birthday, man this is some piece of kit.....

kevin

There you go man, well done, its a struggle for sure, took me a week to get the dash to light up. Feels good when you get a breakthrough. One thing at a time, small goals. If you expect too much at one time I think your going to be dissapointed. My goals at the moment are very small. Finnish the body and do a better lighter dash. Thats it for a while. Well done mate. Steve:)

well back down with bang, i put the rad in, chopped and rewelded the brackets for the rad all is good untill i went to fit the fan.....the original is dead....so got the donor out and tried to match it up...yes you guessed it...doesn't fit so sunday is chopping the brackets back of and refit for the donor fan.....

gotta larf really...

but hey ho.......experience...

latest picks, as you can see from the rear i had to chop a piece out the rear valence, now i will need to fix it either by fibreglass or any other way you can think of and you can see the space where the rear lights go, yeh its a big gap to fibreglass so maybe now you see where the rear lights go maybe come up with different ideas.

there is also a AVI of the exhaust, bit naff but you get the just its in my ONYX folder in the gallery

so hope fully i will get the rear bonded on properly soon or what till warmer weather comes for the sikaflex to work.

You'r best off fiberglassing the rear valence. For sections like that I use a thin perspex sheet from B&Q. Resin won't stick to it so when its cured you can peel it off. Stick the sheet on the outside of the car with duck tape as tight as you can get it then work from the inside, paint resin on every where you are going to put the mat. Lay on the glass mat and gently stipple in resin, go about four layers at least soaking each layer as you go. Silkaflex is difficult to work in the cold unless you pre heat everything with a paint stripper gun or something. Resin to is very slow in the cold. I'm waiting now till it warms up. Not worth the hassle. When the glass is set then you fill in the imperfections, rub down fill rub down fill rub down fill. Get the idea. Steve:)

yeh i wont be bonding the body on untill it warms up, i do have 2 radiators in the garage but not worth the expense running in this cold.

i can do the heater matrix and dash whilst waiting and redo the metal frames for the doors, that will be fun for sure.

might just take to local metal shop and ask how much to make......then get a shock LOL.

kevin

Yes that was my thinking I have no heat in the garage and have to work with the car half in half out due to lack of space but I can make a new dash and some of the interior bits indoors, should save time when it warms up a bit, Have you run yours up with the new exhaust yet? If so how does it sound.:) Steve

yes ran it up, sounds awsume...if you look in my gallery htere is a recording of the can, have a listen its on tickover but will do a propper recording after xmas. also some more picks of work so far.

still need to fit fan and heater matrix ti finis engine bay but all the pipes get warm and temp guage works...

cheers

kevin
