First you say:

So you were sort of implying that they do have 'reoccuring' faults. (yet have not listed the reoccuring faults you've had)

Now you say you didn't say that?!

I said:
"certainly a few ****wits who don't maintain their cars"

Implying that there are a small number of ****wits who don't maintain their cars properly and the result is that they have problems stemming from the lack of maintenance.

I did not say "all people who have faults are ****wits who don't maintain their cars" which would have implied that anyone who has had problems have had them as a result of not correctly maintaining their car. Which is incorrect.

Certainly I have had a few probs with my bravo as listed in the big list, notably 3 dead injectors in 12 months. Not really Fiats fault as the injectors are made by Weber and they failed electrically so I don't think there was anything I could have done to stop it.

Oh well.

Oh sorry M, after 4 years of hanging around here I tend to ignore names Forgive me.

Seen far too many people show up and start **** stiring with absolutely no evidence whatsoever.

Having done pretty much everthing apart from taking the engine to bits or removing the sunroof I think I've got a pretty good idea how fiats work. 20 or so years experience working on cars also helps

I don't think we can overstate the human factor when trying to assess the reliability of our cars.

Certain people mistreat or neglect their cars and then grumble when it goes wrong (I know, I've done it myself in the past). But cars and their components are made by people too (be it they are much less envolved in the process than they used to be),so inevitably the car itself receives the blame rather than the monkeys in factory who didn't care half as much as we do about our motors.

I work in the retail sector of appliances, and it never ceases to astound me how on earth one single appliance can produce so many different faults, and yet others supposedly off the same mass production line work perfectly.

Each is to be judged on its own merits I guess. You do genrally get what you pay for though; on that score I've no complaints about my Fiat. I sincerely hope my HGT even outlasts me!!

Fiats

over the past 15 years i have owned\primary driver the following Fiats

Fiat 127
Uno 55s 1.7D 1.4 Turbo
Tipo 1.4s (x2) 2.0ie
Bravo 1.4s
Marea 2.0 20v

during that time the only mechanical failures ive had are an air flow meter on the turbo and the tensioner on the bravo (had the cambelt changed but not the tensioner - so my fault as car had 100k on the clock)

they have all been great cars to drive, cheap to buy and run. I would never buy one new, but 2nd hand i love fiats.

my marea i bought 2 years ago for £2000. Since then it has never given me any trouble, i change the oil every 6k, check fluids every week, ive replace the front & back disk + pads, changed cambelt+tensioner and i will get another one (hlx this time).
