Put a deposit on a Multipla today, with the Ulysse going in part ex.
But having checked the car, I have a few questions which some of you may be able to help me with.

1. There have been many posts about excess tyre wear on inside edges of front tyres. Has the cause been established (e.g. tracking) and, more importantly, is there a surefire way to prevent the problem ?

2. The tape around two window frames is rucked up, with an air bubble along one edge. Maybe it wasn't put on properly or maybe it has slipped ?
New parts are about £12 + vat, but they're only cosmetic and changing them may cause more harm than good. Anyone else experienced this ?

3. The car includes Fiat mats for the foot areas, but is there a boot mat available ? Or do I just use an offcut when I need to?

4. There have been many posts about gearbox oil seals and worn anti-roll bar links. What are the early symptoms ? I will have a good 6 month warranty, so I want to be sure that any such problems are sorted before the end of that warranty.

5. What manuals are available ? I know that Haynes don't do one, but are there any others (e.g. one for the Italian market) ? (I had a French manual for the Ulysse, which was useful).

6. The cat heatshield appears to have been bent around the cat. Are there any known problems which would have caused someone to do this ?

7. I'm told that the 8-year anti-perforation warranty will still be valid as long as it is checked by a Fiat main dealer on the car's 3rd birthday. Can anyone confirm this ?

Sorry about the long post.

Most of the problems you mention are with the older bug eyed Multipla so i dont know if these things effected the newer shape.

The tracking and suspension problems especially (n)

Thanks Gary, but I'm wondering if the newer shape was more of a cosmetic change than mechanical improvements !

The tyres are showing more signs of wear on the inside edge, so I think this problem still affects the new shape (Dec '04), so I was wondering if there is a cure, like regular tracking checks or a different toe-in ?
I have told the vendor (independent fiat specialist, former dealer) to check the tracking when they service the car before I get it.

For vehicles registered prior to 01/01/2005 to maintian antperforation validity it must have an inspection on the 3rd and 5th anniversaries with the relevant stamp input into the service book. It covers corrosion which has perforated the metal, from a serface which has not been covered by a top coat, i.e. from inside a cavity panel. It does not cover any corrosion from outside sources such as stone chips, scraches bird droppings etc etc

Hi, We have a 54 plate new shape Multipla and it has the problem with the window tape too. I might sort it out one day but apart from looking bad its not really an issue for me. Your Multipla will have been recalled for new front suspension springs like ours and i'm certain this was what caused our front tyres to wear the inside edge to the canvas. We had the tracking reset to 0 degrees as recommended and the new tyres that are on at the moment have even wear and they are due to be replaced in the next few weeks so just get the tracking checked. Are you getting the diesel model? If so they are excellent cars, everyone that gets into ours cannot believe how much room there is inside! Enjoy.

Thanks for that.

The front suspension springs have been done (replaced ?), and the car will be serviced and MOTed before we get it so I've already asked them to check the tracking and set the toe-in to 0 degrees during the service.

Thanks Mal126. You've confirmed what the garage told me.

Equaliser, it is a diesel (JTD Eleganza). We're looking forward to a trip to Paris soon (but not until after the World Cup) so we'll give it a proper runout then. Can't wait, although it'll be sad to see the Ulysse go after 7 years.
