I'm about to add an extra 30BHP to my JTD105 bravo, and i've been told by many people that the power will destroy the engine in 2 or 3 years.

I know the extra power reduces consumption, increases the torque and pushes the car 5 or 6 km/h faster (top speed) - but i don't know whether it will do any harm to the engine.

The extra torque is fine, the car can handle a bit of extra power for sure (110-115BHP) but i'm a bit scared about making it 135BHP.

If i don't keep pushing it to the limits everytime, and change the oil more frequently and take care about the oil/fuel/air filters, will it last as it would if kept with 105BHP ?

Anyone has any information or did the same about this ?

Any feedback is appreciated, please save me from ruining my car if you know it is dangerous :)

Thanks loads

Nuno

???

live for the minute and enjoy yourself now. if the engine pops in 2 or 3 years, get a new car! at least you'll have had a little extra fun in the mean time!

Almost 1 year now......

Hi Nuno,
i've had mine chipped for almost a year now and as of yet there has been no ill effects. i change the oil & filter every 5,000(max) miles and use good oil - Mobil semi-synthetic. the engine runs beautifully, revs 100% percent freely all the way - before i chipped it and replaced the air filter i had a horrible flat spot between 3,000 and 4,000 RPM.
to be honest i don't know if it will harm my engine in the long run - hopefully servicing it well, will keep it running.

Hope this helps,
Colm.

What are the best Chips?

Hi there,
I have been thinking of fitting a chip for my 1998 Bravo HGT, but I really dont know what make to use. They all give figures concerning power but I am confused. What sort of power should a chip realistically give?

Thanks

Ok, many thanks !!

That's it, i'm doing it whenever i get the cash for it. It's a bit expensive (around $600 for the full assembly) but i think i'll manage to have it done by the end of the summer. As this will void my warranty i might just wait until march 2001 just to make sure. As for the Marea front bumper i mentioned a few posts back i think i can get some time for it during the summer holidays. Already got it planned. Pictures later !! :)

Go for the Hopa Divo for improving bhp on your JTD

Hi

I have a Bravo JTD105 GT, I have had a hopa divo module fitted to my car about 5 months ago, although it has an impact on fuel consuption, I think the extra 20% of bhp & torque is worth it. The clever thing about the hopa is that it only increases power by 20% and kicks in when the engine is between 50 to 90 degrees so it dosen't damage the engine. It has also got German TUV approval.

Cheers

Any more information is useful

Allright, that sounds exactly like what wanted, just a bit more of torque and BHP, i mean, like if it had 115-120BHP, there's no need for more if you ask me, not on this car.

So, if you can point me towards any site on the net with more information it would be fine, or maybe some dealer (maybe harder - i'm in Portugal). Anyway, many thanks for the suggestion, if i can find a dealer i'll install that one most likely.

Complete Nonsense

1) Tipo de gasolina de cada país;
2) Pressão atmosférica;

fiabilidade.

In English

Forget that part: that you are changing the reliability of the motor.
It is very simple: when a contructor one programs CHIP (ECU) of a car, it has to have in atention some factors, mainly paises where goes to be sold, and has to conciliate varios values:
1) Type of gasoline of each country;
2) atmospheric Pressure;
3) Type of conduction of the people of this country, normally the conductors lead between 1000rpm and 3000rpm.
4) etc...
Conciliating this, the engine is far below of the REAL performances that should/must have.
The re-programation of the CHIP, extracts all the potential of the engine, without afecting its reliability.

The best chip for yuo

Hi might i have been trying a lot of chips on my car and the best one i found is the uni chip of dasteck
