Just bought a couple of eBay items from a guy who has a random selection of old Fiat parts. One is a thermostat assembly that came complete with top plate and link. I could see from the pics that it looked slightly different but had not realised that the actual thermostat is soft soldered to the plate and the link is crimped in place. Came in the original box. I have no manuals covering 500s before the 500D so I am guessing it is original 500N.

It would be nice to know for sure but I cannot think of any other reasonable explanation for it. My books only go back to 500D information and pictures. My theory is that this is how they were originally but when the thermostat needed replacement with this set up you either had to replace the whole assembly or were faced with a tricky soft soldering job.
