Help please! Picked up car on Wednesday (best choice of car I've ever made) and set about "fiddling" with anything fiddlable. Have got the "reconfigurable multifunction display" which the book says should offer the DIMMER function on the menu at all times. Duly set dash brightness to taste and got on with enjoying new toy. Two days later, decide daytime brightness level is a bit too low but cannot get menu to offer me the DIMMER function again however hard I try! I thought it might be available only when lights are on (despite handbook statement), but no luck there. I'm going to wait until after dark tonight to see if that makes a difference, but if anyone knows how it senses daylight I'd be grateful to learn (might fool it by covering the sensor). Any ideas? I'm not normally this clueless, honest...............

Hi - i've got a feeling the dimmer only works when the headlights are on, you've already worked out the dash is light sensitive and the dash lights wont come on in the day light. i think the sensor is the dark bit at the bottom of the digital display.

I dont think the dimmer changes the brightness of the display when the lights are off however - i think that is fixed as bright as it will go and only dims when the lights are activated.

Its a bit of a pain to see in bright sunlight and even worse if you have sunglasses on.

Thanks MD. The book says the function is always available, but i've already caught it out in a couple of lies so I'm not relying on it. I phoned the dealer - really nice bunch, but no help. Pretty sure you'e right about the light/dark requirement - I'll be fiddling again after work. It could have something to do with the daytime runninglight function - I switched that OFF, but am going to see what happens with it back on. If its ON, the daylight sensor controls dash lighting in tunnels etc. so it has to be in that loop somewhere! Thanks for the help.

Thanks, Tony. Option was back on the menu after dark last night, so have adjusted it - not been out yet today to see what effect in daylight. Always handy to know these little things, isn't it - saves waiting and getting a strange reputation among the neighbours for "fiddling" after dark!(y)

Just went to check mine again as it was bugging me and found that with lights on (as per MDs observation) I did have the display dimmer function so obviously not a component part of the reconfigurable multifunction display.

Now i'm feeling REALLY stupid - checked the pics in the handbook again (more carefully this time) , and now i'm not so sure i DO have the reconfigurable display! MD's right about the display with sunglasses on - can't see a thing! Still love driving it though...

Hi - can anyone clarify which models do have the reconfigurable multifunction display? Thanks
