On my 2001 2.8 JTD engine (sofim 8140.43S) I have an oil leak on oil filter /oil heat exchanger. Is someone know what I have to tight first, I don't know how it is assembled . Thank's.

Once when changing oil and filter, I thought that I had tightend the filter sufficiently by hand. It did not leak when the engine was started, and the filter had refilled. Vehicle was used, stood for some weeks, and then driven again. There was a trail of oil drops behind it, so filter tightened slightly more by hand, and the leak stopped.

If your leak is elsewhere, see links to online eLearn procedures. Oil cooler and Oil filter / Cooler mounting

As I have not had to do this myself, I cannot suggest any other actions. Please note that while that version of eLearn was written for the x244 model, it is still a 2.8jtd engine. Sofim 8140.43s.

Good luck

Looking at the photos it is hard to see in which position the filter is attached (horizontal or vertical), but I'd check over the filter, the leak can be much higher (in my case some years ago in a non-FIAT it was the valve cover gasket leaking very slightly - not tightened enough on one side - and the oil was flowing all the way down...

On the 2.8jtd the oil filter slopes slightly downward along its length. My experience with with a 2.8jtd camshaft cover gasket leak, was also that the oil, as could be expected, flowed down the engin as far as the sump, however I do not remember that it reached the oil filter. However as it is difficult to see the cylinder block, it is difficult to trace oil leaks.

It was just an example to show that a wet oil filter doesn't mean to be the cause of the leak...

Hi, The van is quite old. Oil is cheaper than labour. As long as it passes the Mot and you don't let it run dry, live with it. As for the environment, if the government allows the Water companies to fill the rivers with s--t what's a little oil between fiends. Have fun,Ian.

Thanks all with your responses, filter is fitted horizontally, I'll try this WE to tight the screws which fit the filter body to oil pump body & the one of the exchanger . I don't know wich kind of gasket are fitted ? O ring ? Some views I had found.
Passed the MOT this week, I cleaned oil with brake cleaner spray & it was OK (french MOT)
