Looks like possible combination of rocker cover and messy top up. Clean it up and keep an eye on things.

well i have cleaned it up since a while ago , i parked it for 6 days and left it there i noticed like 5 drops on the floor coming from the oil sank downward i kept moving with the oil until it stopped at the level of the front exhaust pipes
if it is rocker cover should the coolant level decrease also ??
sorry about my low mechanical info !!

I'm confused? Have you cleaned it all up and the. Run it for a day or two, to see if it comes back?

To me it looks like you missed topping the oil up. You should check your crank case breather pipe as well just incase it's oil being blown out via the dip stick

Thats the rocker cover, and you will find you can only really seal the leak with a gasket sealant. Mine looked like that when i bought it, i fiddled with some sealant and the rocker cover, bit of degreaser, and its all shiny.

Probably find its leaking from behind the coilpacks too (which you will not be able to get a seal for - fiat themselves told me to contact a company in italy (no joke)).

Personally, i used some PTFE tape and the original seal (to pack it out abit) job done (y)

well i'm sure it's not the dipstick but sorry for my ignorance is that the breather pipe in the pic ?? because i found some oil drops inside

im so confused but 90% of the opinions (rocker cover) i'm sending it to a local garage to check it and tell you the results
and im going to replace all the gaskets indeed to be cautious

I told you that was horlics at the time, and you were told where to get the correct O ring.

Job bodged :bang:

Your engine now probably contains enough PTFE tape to block an oilway.

To the original owner, I know that there's a school of thought in Morocco, Algeria and Lybia which teaches that you should put the entire contents of an oil container into the car wnen changing the oil. You don't belong to that school, by any chance...............?

I have found Loctite 518 anaeroboc gasket sealant is great for stopping soft gaskets slipping It can even patch up compressed seals like the coil pack seal - though its much better replaced. ;)

Being anaerobic, it's liquid until air is excluded within a joint so wont clog oilways like silicone RTV sealtant.

well i do not belong to any of them , when changing the oil about 1/4L is left from the container and i can add them later but could you explain what is the disadvantages of putting the whole container ??

If you overfill, the oil will blow out through the breather, if it can, which will mess up the oil filter and possibly even lead to detonation (oil mist lowers the octane rating of petrol). If it can't get out through the breather it will get blown out through the gaskets and oil seals, which destroys them pretty quickly.

I mean no disrespect, but I have a really hard job convincing my Arab freinds here that you use the dipstick to measure how much oil the engine needs, never tighten the oil filter more than hand tight, etc.

I just don't know where the get these ideas from.

to add to what Fingers said, your car may be at risk if you do not keep up proper maintenance, pistons go up as well as down, if you over fill the oil you can put the bottom of the engine under serious stress if the pistons slap into the viscous oil which has limited places to go. in extreme cases can cause hydraulic lock where the engine effectively seizes because of the resistance of the fluids

I wrapped half a mm worth of PTFE which is 3 layers around where the seal sits, WITH THE SEAL OVER THE TOP.

Hence packing it out enough to not leak. Do you even know what PTFE is? Lol!

Lmao well im a lifting equiptment specialist, so im between mechanic and plumber. Bite me (y)

yeah you are 100% right and i'm now start to thinking "that's what just happened to me here" (breather blown out and oil went through gaskets and seals)
i believe that everyone should accept the expert's advice
i want to ask you one last thing could you tell me volume of oil (in litters) when changing not to overfill given that its 4L and recommendations during oil change
and thanks in advance (y)

Genius! Then you will know that british standard PTFE tape is only rated to 85 degrees C, now what temperature does your thermostat open?

This can be your home work (y)

As for the oil quantity I believe it's 2.5 liters for just the sump oil 2.8 liters for sump and oil filter.

Edit: figures are for mk2 sorry not mk1 as is the descussion of this thread

It's given as 3.8 litres for the 1.2, 3.5 for the 1.1. But best way is, drain the oil, remove the filter (oil will drain quicker and better if engine is hot and you remove dipstick). Put on new filter (as tight as you can but just with your hand, no tools. Put in half the oil from the container (usually they are 4 or 5 litres) as quickly as you can, then slowly fill to the half way point on the dipstick. Run the engine, check for leaks from the filter, wait for 5 minutes, top up to level -- from min to max is less than half a litre.

It's worthwhile taking the breather off from time to time, dunk it in degreaser, flush through with water, shake it dry and replace -- there's a flame trap in there which can get clogged up.
