Technical Oil Gauge on matrix display question

I just have a question I have been meaning to ask for a while.

On the matrix disply there's the screen that shows the oil temp and the one on the left, which I presume is the pressure.

The gauges have a white semi circle with bars that are blackened as the pressure or temp changes.

What is the deal with these things. The oil temp always has full black bars and the other one has just 2 or 3 and sometimes fluctuates...

Is it actually the white bar that is the reading I'm looking for or the black ?
Also should the one on the left fluctuate as I accelerate ?

Stupid question I know but I didn't get the matrix manual as it was an after market fit..

Hi Koa,

It is the white bars that give the reading. My oil pressure has full white 4 bars and occasionally when the engine is hot will drop to 3 bars if sat at tick over (junctions, traffic lights etc). The temp one so far has only every shown 2 bars "lit". Obviously not driving hard enough!!

What I will say is that I thought the pressure gauge was an oil level gauge which nearly proved costly as I almost ran out of oil!!

It is indeed the white bars, read from left to right - my oil pressure usually has 6 full bars [not 4 full ones?!], but sometimes drop at tickover [see my concerns in my 'Whats up' thread].

My temp one is usually on 3/6.

Yeah white bars. My pressure gauge nearly always registers all white except dropping 1 bar occasionally when on a downhill motorway runoff under braking and if oil level is a little low.

The temperature bar always registers slap bang in the middle apart from a leisurely motorway drive where it will occasionally drop a notch indicating slightly lower temperature.

That's excellent, Thanks guys I suspected it was the white bars that I should be reading but needed confirmation as it's a little obscure. So as far as oil temperature goes, I only get one white bar now and then iirc yet I do drive it like it's stolen sometimes
