Technical Oil filter

Question where is oil filter located on a 1968 850. Also on the bottom left of engine there’s a homemade cover on there with two screws does anyone know what would go there? Reason I ask is that it’s leaking oil.When first driving it like surges, any idea why?

It's a centrifugal oil filter on the crankshaft pulley.

I assume the cover you mention with two screws, do you have electric fuel pump as the plate may cover where the mechanical pump was.
