Hi guys!

How much is your oil consumption of your B???? If you have any!

I noticed 400gr after 1000 miles lately!

do you think it's normal?

Sorry, its 400ml per 1000 miles.

I use Oil grade 10/40 as Fiat recomends

Seems quite high. Mine does 800ml/10000Km (about 125ml/1000mil). But if your engine works fine, it's propably due to worn valve seal(s). Not much to worry about, just check your levels regularly and keep adding oil if needed.

Also check that your filter or sump isn't leaking oil.

I don't have any leakages as this was the first that I checked!
I haven't seen not even a drop in the garage where I park my B

The engine works fine and I check the Oil very often....
Also I always keep a bottle of Oil in the trunk!

seems to me strange this consumption...

Mine does not leak oil or use any at all between oil and filter changes which are done annually after around 7,000 miles. The oil always looks as clean as the day it went in even just before it is changed. I think the reason is no short journeys as the car is used mainly for long and often fast drives.

How knows... my B probably likes the Oil that's why she eats it....

We 'll see tomorrow...

I will take her to my mechanic for full service...

time belts, water pump, variator, bearings

Up to now I have 80.000 miles

Guys, it has to do with the way you drive...
If you press your car really hard(redlined everywhere) it can burn oil as 4 ltr every oil change...
Mine if i drive it light, it doesn't burn any oil, but on the otherhand if i pressed hard it burnes at least 2.5-3 ltr.
The above is not my assumptions I checked with 2 dealerships.
Don't worry... Just keep filling up...:)

That's true, I have noticed oil consumption when revving hard but under everyday normal use, the engine doesn't burn any oil.

4litres?Thats all the oil the engine has!!It never gets more than 1/2 litre every 10000Km in my B and i used selenia gold ,now i will put Agip 10W-40,i use it in my punto hgt and i am very pleased .

Low oil level damages the variator.

I took back the car from the mechanic...

I changed everything, timing belt, variator, bearings,

even the clutch....

I told him about the consumption.... He told me that this is normal for this engine...

If you run it on reds all the time you may have to fill up with fresh oil every 500 miles... but if you are a normal driver (what is normal???) you don't have to as the engine will not burn the same.

So don't be afraid keep your right foot on the floor and a couple of bottles with oil in the trunk! :slayer:

chears!

I use 5W-40 Mobil1, and between oil changes (every 15.000Km) one liter of oil to be missing it's normal (for most cars)...depends a lot on the total nr of the Km which the engine has and the driving style (high revs => oil consumption especially when the time for the next oil change is aproaching).

Had the same problem, engine using approx 2.5 litres per thousand miles. I did a considerable amount of reading on the subject before I reaized that modern oils are only just in spec and don`t do what they say on the tin. Bought some 10w40 Amsoil no more probs even now get 50mpg on a steady motorway run. I still drive fast when the feeling takes me.
However if you thought mobile one one was expensive you will have a shock with Amsoil. I have also bought Amsoil for the gear box but not had the chance to change it yet. I am not expecting to much for the gearbox as oil won`t sort bad sycro`s on second gear. However it will offer better protection.

Good Idea, 5w40 is for a colder climate and is thinner for start-ups

The figure to worry about is the "40". If its burning oil when used hard you need a higher upper numer - like - 10-50 or 10-60.

The 5 (or 10) is the vicosity when its cold. The lighter weight gets it circulating quicker. If its then staying relatively thick (as in a 50 or 60) when its hot the engine gets better protection under load.

Hope this makes sense.
