From having my Alfa that also has this box, I've seen that a range of the alfa's also have the same problems. These are generally the diesels nearer the torque limits.

Alot seem to start whining in excess of your 60k and are age related if the gearbox oil hasn't been changed before on older models.

Good info from Rob, autolusso are great and its pretty cheap in the way gearbox repairs go if you fix it now to if it's left to selfdestruct.

Your may have had some niggles but that's 2nd hand car buying, even with a FSH. Atleast you may get some peace of mind after it's been sorted :)

I had a gearbox failure and it was fixed under an extended warranty, the bill to me was £0. The final bill was £1000 give or take £50

Sorry to hear your news, especially as you are (were?) such a Bravo enthusiast.

Very useful replies from Rob Bravo on this I thought.I also have a "whirring" rather than "whining" gearbox most noticeable in 5th and 6th but one of the reasons you notice it is because the car is so quiet generally.I only noticed it when I turned the sounds down!

I also have a AA 5 star policy but as it is a mechanical "breakdown" policy it strictly speaking doesnt cover noise issues so good luck with your claim.

The Fiat Forum is really helpful on this topic only problem is you tend to go on the forum after you buy the car and then it is too late......

Bring on the comprehensive Bravo buyers guide!!

I am leaving the gearbox for now as today we started a bad misfire and the engine management light stayed on so I need to l get that problem sorted out first before worrying about the gearbox.

Would be useful to hear from any "whirrers" or "whiners" that have sucessfully continued without the gearbox exploding.

I am very much a Fiat enthusiast. I love Fiat. Though I have only owned 2. Yes I am also still a HUGE Bravo fan. I'm loving mine minus the issues. Things just aren't going right for me. Too May things going wrong in such a short space of time. I've had the car 6 months and if it wasn't for my AA warranty I'd probably be close to £1000 of repairs including this gearbox. If it is indeed faulty. That's not on. But you run the risks with used cars and that's what I have to get. I can't justify a new car price at this moment in my life. I was actually in the process of upgrading the Bravo to a 150 t-jet sport in that gorgeous Maserati blue from the dealer I purchased mine from. If was a year and a half younger, 25,000 miles less used and was absolutely stunning. That fell through as some other lucky sod purchased it haha. My experiences with my car have far from deterred me from fiats or of Bravos. But there's going to be a barrier I will hit before I think enough is enough and give in trying to save this car. I understand things break and mine is hitting 7 years old in a couple of months. But I can't help but feel the guy who owned it previously knew the lives of certain parts of my car were coming to an end. Think I'm going to get gearbox done. Treat it to an alloy refurbishment and see how it goes. If it does become too much I may replace it with another Bravo. Depending on price etc. I would love a 150 T-jet sport very much.

Glad to hear you are keeping the faith but quite understand that we all will come to a point where we have to say enough is enough.

The problem is that we all have been seduced by a super looking Italian(and I agree that a Maserati Blue T jet Sport is the tops) and why not there arent that many around?

Certainly some of the other posts show that it doesnt have to be a holiday romance it can be a long term relationship......

Good luck.:)

Thanks, I'm hoping for the latter. I'd happily keep this car for 3 years or more. Then on to the next Fiat. Hopefully by that time fiat will have a gorgeous new family Hatch and I'll sit in a show room and pick what I want. Always wanted a new car. I would love to sit in front of a salesman who asks "what options do you want?" and I can just say "Everything!".

Hi everyone, for don't open another topic for the same problem im gonna asking you over here...i live in Chile and the dealer of fiat parts does`t offer me a real solution for this problem, so i need to import the replace pack of bearings and im not sure about if this pack is the same of another m32 gearbox selling in ebay. Could anybody help with this?
I have friends here who had the astra H opc and told me they have the same gearbox but don't know if it is exactly the same or have some difference...

thanks and good luck mathew with your fiat!

nobody knows?

Just wondering how you were getting on with both your gearbox repair and your breakdown insurance? Is it proceeding sucessfully.

I see another post where a T jet M32 gearbox has gone nosiey and the forum moderator has suggested a gearbox oil change (with manufacturer spec gearbox oil) and a gearbox oil additive (such as Molslip) and that in his experience this has cured many noise issues. Is this worth a try?
Have any others had success with this?

Hey buddy,

I'm unfortunately a very busy man at the moment, gearbox actually seems to be ok. I did a quick run to Birmingham the other day with no issues on noise. Could be the quiet before the storm mind. I plan to have a complete and thorough service done within the next 2 months. Including spark plugs, water pump, belts, tensioners, brake pads (maybe refurbish the disks), gearbox oil, engine oil. I might even have the petrol tank flushed and cleaned. I'm also considering an upgrade on the suspension to eibach pro's and if I did that I'd also have my top mounts replaced and any bushes that are easily accessible. I would like the anti roll bushes replaced but hear it's a pain, as you have to replace the whole bar on a Bravo. All this needs money obviously so I'm waiting for a hard earned bonus to come in from work and I'm gonna treat the car. Cosmetically I'm also refurbing my alloys to anthracite. So it should feel like a new car once all this is done. God knows how much it's all going to cost. But I've fallen in love and replacing it isn't an option at the moment, I had a dodgy phase when I first spotted the gearbox noises where I thought stuff it get a new one however my mind has been swayed. I'm going to resuscitate my bravo and I think it will be worth it.

I can certainly appreciate being busy/having to save up to do work on your car, but would respectfully suggest doing what the moderator suggested in another thread i.e. drain the gearbox and refill with the approved oil +/- Molyslip. I've had good success doing just this, remember gear oil wears out just like engine oil! Why not change the gear oil first yourself, only takes an hour even lying on the ground ( no jack, stands, ramp etc. needed)and leave all the other work for later when funds permit. You might be pleasantly surprised, wouldn't be the first time I went to change gearbox oil and discovered it was quite low and therefore noisy due to a leak!

Al.
p.s. I've always believed that 30,000 miles was enough life from manual gearbox or final drive oils

I wouldn't even know what to do lol. Or what oil to get etc. I love cars. But mechanically my knowledge is limited to bulb changes and checking engine oil levels lol.

Glad to hear you are still motoring and good luck with all your planned work and mods when the time comes around.

I dont think anyone has answered your question as to whether the six speed gearbox in the Multiair is an M32 or not,it would be useful to know.

Sorry to hear that. Any relatives, friends, neighbours, work mates who could show you how to check/change the gearbox oil?.Have you checked on youtube for this job? Any Fiat dealer will know the correct oil to use or alternatively any good motor factor. It's really quite straightforward. I'm sure if someone 'walked you through' this job you'd say that was easy. We all had to start somewhere, each little job completed encourages you to do more but if you don't try, you'll never learn. It's a great feeling knowing that you can fix most things on your car and not have to be running to a garage for every little job and paying quite a lot each time. Haynes workshop manuals used to be the DIY mechanics bible but they don't seem to cover modern Fiats afaik.

Anyway, to each his own, I hope you manage to sort out your gearbox without too much expense.

Regards,

Al.
