Anyone who says that there are only a few office type apps available for Linux doesnt know much about Linux. There are thousands of programs available for Linux - in fact probably a lot more than you could get for a Mac.

Anyone wanting to try Linux I would advise them to start off with Mandrake which has always been teh most user friendly distro.

Linux is free, stable and fast. It is far more up to date than Windows. Unlike Windows where it can take weeks before bugs are ironed out Linux generally has bug fixes up within hours of them being found. Additionally Redhat 9 is probably easier to install than any current Windows product at the moment.

dude, i have been using linux since 1995! it rocks, except for limitations in applications. but nowadays, linux got everything. my favourite linux is slackware, but at the moment using fedora linux on my vaio coz i need to support my copany's techs. im running a low spec laptop (celeron 330), only having problem with vcds, else, no complains. fedora would be nice fer a newbie, except if you got sum custom specs in ya pc.
