As title really,it started lastnight by going off but sound still there.so decided to unplug it an go watch tv in bed.Its been fine all day then all of a sudden (tea time ish) the whole of the tv has gone dark, well apart from a stretch of the screen at the top.

I been trying to google (which im useless at lol) to see where i can purchase the bulbs/tubes from and also where can 1 get it fixed and for how much.
Its all we need run up to xmas and all that :(

what type of tv is it?

if it is a lcd/plasma and the light has gone it's prob cheaper to buy a new TV than to repair it.
I used to repair screen in my old job and it worked out more expensive in the end.

you can pick up 42" LCD's for about £350 now

yer its a 42" LG lcd 1080p..
we unplugged it lastnight rather than leave on stand-by (to go cold )and the screen is back on,well minus a dark stretch at top of the screen this time.Think its on its way out now :(
we thought itd be cheaper to buy a new tv but at the time we got ours at a good price as its full hd,wheras cheaper tv's are just 600-799htz.

gutted tbh cos aint got that kinda money lieing around if it does go :s

sounds like a light issue, it can be very expensive to fix those problems.

You can pick up a 42" LG 1080p 100hz tv for around £400ish now, and a 50" for £499 i saw last week.

Do you have insurance as mine was covered when my tv stopped working and got a brand new model.

Darren

we havnt no.

Right, just been on the phone to the firm and told him the problems and its a few month out of warranty. So,he said if i can get it to him he'll replace the tube (or tubes) for free OR if its more complicated then he'll reinburse us as it should last ages not just ova 12 months. We wont have a tv but he said he'll lend us one :) bit lucky really as he could have told me to do one...like currys did to a mate of mine for being 2 days out lol cost him £375 to get his 50" plazma fixed..(stuck on standby)

sounds like a good little independent shop you have there, bad word of mouth for him would do more damage than to a national like currys.

if all goes well share his details on here, you never know someone may be looking for some electronics...

went down to Accrington this morning to drop it off,and i got a shitty 32 Technosonic tv on loan lol but hey,it works :)

quick update:
,i rang them up on sat 23rd as it was a week since i took it and they have fixed it.replaced all the bulbs but they want to hang on with it for a week and leave it in the shop on display just to make sure its fully working..so hopefully ill be gettting my tv back on sat :)
