howdy tom,
firstly did you get me postal order,..lol

if you are looking at mechanics there are a few different options,
personally i would try and go towards the electrcal side as more and more cars are electronicly controlled.ie ecu,s and the like..
pay wise it depends where and what you work on,you can always move on to an mot technician.
around this area"manchester",i would say the avarage pay for a mechanic in a dealership would be around £300-£400 a week, but depending on experience/qualifications.
it is good to get "in the trade"as you will save shed loads on bills, plus you can fix your own/other cars for £££,ive made shedload's over the years being a mechanic,it has its good points and bad points like any job.
i am not that good with bodyshop's,my brother worked in one for a while, and he said the same, its good at times but bad if say you have a deadline or you paint a car it goes wrong.
lets face it there is always going to be people crashing there cars, accidental or not..so there is always going to be work in body repair, but as for mechanic's its all going computerized.diagnostics/main dealer servicing, plus much tougher emission law's..so the electronic way is becoming the norm, being able to diagnose a fault just by driving a car is fadding away,..its easyer for a dealership to just plug your car into a computer and let the car tell you the fault, plus they charge you the earth for this..lol

anywayz..if you wanna know anymore js ask bud,..sorry to rant on..lol

cheers
big al
