as title.I bought an iphone 3g 16gb as faulty off the bay as the orange warning triangle with the 'temperature too hot' is stuck on main screen after start up.Is there any way of sorting this out? i thought itd be fine to use for a while to try and restore, but it has been in thre post for 24hours and it still showed the message when i turned it on,.stone cold.

I bought it for the gf cheaply (its in immaculate cond complete with box and acc's) i know some apps dont work with the 3g so apps and all that isnt really an issue as she just wanted the phone and the fact she isnt a phone geek lol Was intending to get a 3gs as they're a better and faster phone but they are still expensive nowadays.

i have installed iTunes and was hoping to restore it and then update it to a newer version see if that would work etc So plugged it into the comp but the comp cant detect the phone as i cant get it on,just emergency calls only :s

Anyone any ideas?
Cheers
Mike

Hi sven thanks for the reply,
When i get my phone back tonigt i will try and restore it,thats if itll work.(and thats if my neighbour hasnt tried already)
I have been on the phone to apple this morning and this guy said the same about resetting it and took me through the steps,He also gave me an Apple store's number to book an appointment at the closets store to get the phone fixed. So i rang them up first to get a price on how much it would cost, the guy on the phone (in the shop) said it'd be £139 for a replacement phone (as they dont repair them) with it being out of warranty and ill get a new phone :(

If i cant get it to reset tonight then ill have to put it back up for grabs as its only a 3g and i got it for just over £120 so + 139 is £259.Ill report back tonight see if i have any luck with it.

Thanks for the advice
Mike

Sven, got my phoone back and i tried to reset it and it worked, the itunes logo came up on the phone so i clicked restore and It resetted itself and then installed the new io4 software and it has recognised my network etc Then when it was done,it disconnected itself from itunes and then i got that warning sign again on the phone.Itll come on but it wont stay put,it keeps going back to the warning sign.
when it does come on for the split second,it shows my battery as half full

shall i buy a new battery do ya think before i put it back up for grabs? as on the forums people are saying the temp sensor is foobard.

Mike

If its happening from time to time there is a bigger problem around, but it may not be the sensor. The iPhone monitors temps in the phone, so if any of the components starts to overheat it will sense it and display the sign.
IMO - get a replacement battery in, there cheap and install it. If the problem persists sell it and if not keep it.

How to open the phone can be found here (would do it for you, but Im not around ;))

Hi mate, thats the thing.I dont know what it could be as when i received the phone it was stone cold (in the post for 24 hours) and like i say i switched it on and the sign was there.I updated it took about 20 mins and it was still there, ppl on the apple forums are saying its the temp sensor as something inside the phone is making it come on :s

I now have it on the bay at the mo,batteries and unlocking tools are only £4.75 from the bay and was umming and arring wether to get one or not as to be honest i didnt want to spend anymore money on it.If i were to get one i gota wait for it over the weekend now otherwise theyre £15 from local market.

Cheers

If you dont have the time or interest of opening it up ad fiddling a round with it, sell it. I cant be sure, but it can also be the logic board or something and then you have opened it up and lost time. Your call this time.

Just to add a post form a forum for iPhone:
1. The temperature sensor in the iphone is what's called a thermocouple, and it is placed near the battery to kill power if temperatures rise to dangerous levels.
2. The sensor is part of the battery charging circuit.

i took it to a shop yesterday and they shown me the inside of an inphone.Once you got the back off, there is another metal bracket with alot more little screws holding that on,then once you get that out the battery is under that and it is stuck down.Rather than mess about with it and have the chance of messing the phone up proper,i decided against it and just to sell it on.Easier option.

Thanks for the advice to start with :)

Na its a easy job, take the display off and you gain access to the batt, lift it upa nd your done.
But it may be for me after doing 10 iPhones 2G and over 30 iPhones 3G/3GS for various part replacements. Would gladly help if I where in UK.

i only saw the back of it,and the guy in the shop didnt say anything about take the front/display off that way to do it.
Ah well,i still think its more than a battery issue tbh as like i said was stone cold it came on with that warning without me even using it.

its at £100 now reserve met.ill be happy with that anyway as i won it at £115.

Gonna save up and get the g/f a working 3gs :)

Cheers
