I put a really strong magnet by my tv and it changed the colour of the screen, now half of the TV has a shade of green?? any ideas?

******, lol, cos i knew it would make a wierd colour but didnt realise it would stay that way, lol, its my little bros tv, he's quite angry and i dont think the fact i made him breaky in bed is gonna make up for it :(

hehe he your bro he will love you again when you buy him a new tv, breaky in bed wont cut..

i got 32inch wide screen in my bedroom so if my sis came near mine with magnets i wud break her lil fingers :D

Well you know a TV is made up of lots of Red, Green and Blue segments to make the colours, the magnet has pulled them out of alignment if you like, thats why its gone a funny shade of green.

My surround sound sub a thome did something similar, but I saw it and moved it away pronto!!

Try degaussing screen if there is an option.

If all else fails and you want to try.... put the magnet back near the coloured distortion and 'massage' it out. Not saying it'll work or it won't make your TV worse, but the times a magnet has affected my TV, it seems to work.

I CLAIM NO RESPONSIBILITY !

haha, cheers, as a last resort i will try that

Yea my speaker did it to my tv and it took me weeks to get of my arse and move it and it didnt do anything to the tv which is why i figured it wouldnt do anything permanent, but why did i have to use a powerfull magnet, if one isnt enough, i used 8 put together and did it twice, i really am an idiot, but still where would the entertainment be if i was normal! :p

That's why hi-fi speakers boldy proclaim "magnetically shielded", so as you can put them next to a TV.

Your TV is goosed, I'm afraid.

Rog has spoken therefore it is so :(

Damn me having to buy him a new TV grrrrrr im so angry with myself, the scary thing is that once i did it i went round to all the tv's and waved magnets around them to see what happened, lol, i really dont learn :S

the TV will be alright if you switch it on and off a few times using the main switch (you must use the mains switch !!), leaving maybe 10 or 15 minutes between switch on. Or, if there is an option in the menu's, try degaussing it manually a few times. Failing that, you will have to try a degaussing wand or coil at a tv repair shop. but its not permanent damage !

Owen.

YES, it worked, a few switching on and off and its back to normal, thank god for that!

re

as above, i used to do it to computer monitors at school, but they all have a degaus option normally.

i have done it by accident very slightly to tv's befoire with magnetic screwdrivers and the like but always gone away with a couple of complete unplugs and on then unplug.

just pressing standby won't be enough!!

I have done this with my TV before, Put the magnet back on the screen, and drag the distortion off to the side of the screen. this made mine better but was never 100% again.

Blimey, makes a change. We all came up with the same solutions :)
