Hi guys,

The missus has been offered a Ford Ka quite cheap and she is very interested. She would have had a Bravo but the insurance is just too much and for what she can afford (car price AND insurance costs), the Ford Ka is the only realistic option (or a Pug 106 but she doesn't like them!)

A few things we would like to know:

1.) Anything inparticular to look out for. I.e. common faults, etc.

2.) Service schedule? I.e. when to get filters / fluids / belts / etc changed.

3.) The integrated Ford CD player needs the code (the battery was left to go flat) Where would we get this information from? The page from the book has been torn out :eek:s

Many thanks in advance,

Martin (and Lisa!!)

Can't say too much about the car as I only had the misfortune to have one as a courtesy car after a put my HGT into the side of Cinema City in Norwich !

Not at all impressed, especially after having owned and driven a Cinquecento Sporting and a Seicento Sporting. Both of those are MUCH nicer cars :)

But if you've been offered a good deal and the lady likes it, who am I to try to say otherwise :)

I imagine service intervals and such like will be pretty average. Don't know of any common faults and as for the radio code, if they're anything like FIAT, it will cost about £25 to get the code from a dealer once you've provided them with VIN numbers, etc. If you look on eBay there will be many people selling bits of software that claim to provide you with a plethora of codes, but I've never used them and couldn't vouch for their reliability.

Good luck anyway :)

The one she has been offered is the KA 3 which has electric windows, air-con and cd player as standard. Its on an 'S' plate (1998) on 66'000 miles.
Very tidy looking car, cant find any rust, just passed its MOT without a problem and the guy is asking £1100.

What do you think?

Thanks for the comments so far!

Never owned one, but can confirm I thought the then new one I tried at a Ford dealers in 2003 seemed to handle quite well, but had awful brakes and was cramped in the back seats for it's size. Was only available with 1 airbag as well at the time and had no ENCAP rating.

I hated the dash/lack of glovebox and the gutless 1.3 pushrod engine, the basic block of which could be traced back to the Escort of 1968(!)
In the end I bought my Daihatsu - the same price and slightly smaller outside, but a better car in almost every respect I can think of - but then it is a more modern design, looks aside.

A neighbour who owned a '52' Reg. Ka3 with leather seats seemed to like hers, but it did have a heater leak and the foil on the 'B' pillars peeled off in the 2 years she had it.

She said she (only) got 35 MPG out of it, (short journeys and I can't say how she drives though)

that sounds like a good deal mate to be honest,

we get about 70 miles to £5 at an average of 97.9p a ltr out of ours (duratech) cant speak for any others on that fact the top model is a good choice for all the luxuaries its got co u wont get much more for that money, id get it.

Being a '98 its the Endura-E or Endurance engine. Apparently doesn't use overhead cams, but a push-rod instead.

At least we dont have to worry about the dreaded cambelt!! lol!!

"Does anyone know anything about Ford KAs"
Only that there's a 'K' missing at the end of the name!
