When you want to manipulate a program you can do it via using 'run' on the windows start bar or by setting it within a shortcut and changing the 'target' and putting something like this at the end -w 0 -s133

...\program.exe" -w 0 -s133

What is this type of practice called. I have a exe file that i want to run at startup, change the settings then close it down at the same time. But i need to now what each command does i.e -w 0 -s133.

I've been searching google but no avail. I remember doing this stuff in my Operating Systems class but have completely forgotten.

Thanks in advance.

These are program specific operations in a specific syntax.

you wont be able to end the program just from 'run', you will need to create a batch file with the commands you want to run in and then use something like 'tskill program.exe' to kill the process.

I have a PC that has a locked BIOS but i can change the FSB by using a program called setFSB.

What i want to do is run the program, then "get current FSB", then move the slider to 400FSB then "Apply new FSB" then shut the program down.

Heres what someone else wrote....

"And edited the target line on the shortcut properties so it looks like:

...\setfsb.exe" -w 0 -s153 for 1.2 ghz
...\setfsb.exe" -w 0 -s133 for the stock 1.06 "

the thing is his settings make my CPU lock up as it WAY overclocks it but it wont shut down.

okay, so what are you looking to achive? what clock speed?

P.S if you want you can email me on the same address

Ry

8x 400 = 3.2GHz. I want to set the slider to 400MHz from the set 333MHz.

i'm struggling to get my head around how the values have been calculated, what incriments does the slider go up in?

Ry

Its ok now mate i got it working with the original way i wanted so windows will run it at startup.

This is what i used....

\setfsb.exe" -w 0 -s400 -u1

It sets the FSB to 400 and will close the program after. I knew it was possible. Just wish i had a book of all the possible syntax meanings.

Thanks for your help mate.

good good, i googled it and couldnt find much on the syntax of the program.

glad its sorted.

why dont you flash the bios that usually clears the password.

they are called switches btw.

The Bios doesn't have a password that has been entered via a user, its a manufacturers password that locks the overclocking features. :(

Since you know what they're called, any chance you can point me to a site that contains them all and there meanings.

Cheers anon, but i already knew those switches. But thanks anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing all the possible window switches that can be done either in a database or a pdf doc etc.
